We are gearing up to support clients dealing with changes to certificates for exporting food and products of animal origin to the EU.

Businesses from England, Scotland or Wales must apply in advance for the new Export Health Certificate (EHC) to export to the EU or to move food and products of animal origin to Northern Ireland before 21st August 2021.

Existing EHCs, which have been used since the UK left the EU on 1st January, are being replaced by ones with slightly different requirements, so any products heading for the EU from 21st August will require one of the new certificates.

Please read the advice to exporters on our website ahead of the changes to certification: https://bit.ly/3ewhi4S

Did you catch this morning’s Farming Today programme on Radio 4? They discussed the importance of the role qualified vets play in the export industry and how the veterinary sector is trying to prepare for Brexit. They also covered how tariffs could affect lamb exports after the brexit transition and the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in some non-EU countries.

Definitely worth a listen, skip to 9:20 to hear about the need for OVs:

The European Commission has agreed to list the UK as a ‘third country’, if there’s a no-deal Brexit. This means you’ll continue to be able to export the following to the EU:
Live animals
Germplasm
Products Of Animal Origin (POAO)
Animal by-products (ABPs)

EU listing for exporters and suppliers
You’ll need to be listed as an approved establishment with the EU if you either:
Export POAO including red or white meat, fish and fish products, or dairy and egg products
Germplasm - contact APHA Centre for International Trade to be listed
Animal by-products - contact the ABP team on 03000 200 301 or [email protected] to be listed
Supply other UK establishments that export these goods to the EU

The European Commission has confirmed that the current list of UK animal by-product and germplasm premises will be accepted in a no-deal Brexit.

https://www.farminguk.com/news/no-deal-brexit-eu-approves-uk-s-third-country-status_54148.html

The UK’s listed status application has been agreed by EU after it met the assurances required for a third country to export live animals and animal products.
