We were called to a hospital recently after a cub had managed to get her head stuck in a drain entrance
She was completely flat and had lost a lot of blood. The quick thinking nurses wrapped the cub up and rubbed honey on her gums while they waited for us to arrive, and these actions helped to save the cubs life
We whisked her away straight to our vet where she was triaged and stitched back up. Initially, her temp was so low it was unreadable, and glucose at a dangerously low level. A couple of days later and a lot of tlc with us, and she was ready to go home. She's a very lucky cub with a second chance
We wanted to share this short video made by one of the nurses who helped to rescue her π§‘
We love a good box here.. π¦
Introducing our second cub, Edith
She's been quite poorly since admission last week, this is mostly due to the fact that Edith was on her own for 48 hours before anyone noticed her
But she's turned a corner now and things are really looking up for her
Whatever you're doing on this gloomy Monday, take a minute to watch Edith's video and see if she doesn't brighten your day π¦π
A good morning to all on this beautiful day
We've lots going on here and plenty to share with you
Limpit's amputation was successful and he is currently resting up and taking it easy. He's already been up and about for a wander and ofcourse he's getting extra treats. He's feeling quite sore but the worst is over and it's only up from here for our boy
Ziggy is doing really well and is almost ready to go home. It's a matter of days now for him and he's super eager to be back out. He's been in with us for some time due to how poorly he was when we caught him. Last time he was outside he was full of mange and very ill so its going to be amazing for him when he steps out of the carrier healthy and into the spring air with the grass under his paws and every oppertunity ahead of him
Lady - our little lone orphan is doing well. We had to start he on anti biotics after she developed an abcess on her back. We assume that this is something that started before she was abandoned. It's easily sorted though and she's good about taking her medicication. We are still waiting for a cub or cubs her age to mix her with. If this doesn't happen in the next month then we'll look at taking her south to join other cubs
3 sibling cubs are doing well. They'll be old enough to go outside into our cub enclosure soon which is being built next week. They will stay here until they move on to a soft release site later on in the year
We've a cub at the vets with a degloved mouth injury. One of the worst injuries we've seen for a little one. The cub had surgery yesterday and we'll update on this as we go
A number of adults on the list to be treated outside and others on the waiting list to come in. We've treated another 16 foxes in the last 2 weeks who are all now enjoying life parasite free without the stress of capture
We'll do individual updates on all of the foxes in with us over the coming days π§‘
Here's a video of our 3 sibling cub kennel, who are all taking cover behind thei
For every 1 we bring in there's 10 others we treat this way
It can often be better for the fox to put them in the ambulance and administer a one time mange treatment particulary if they are otherwise healthy or their condition doesn't yet warrant admission
For example here's a fox we caught from Limpits territory suffering with stage 1 mange infection
Ive had a good look at her and checked her over. It's just mange so here we are just taking a moment before we administer a treatment to them and then release her shortly after. Its often necessary to treat as many foxes as possible in an area to break the mite cycle
This fox was back out within minutes mange free and protected going forwards
When we're not working in the unit looking after the foxes we've caught we are outside checking traps, cameras and responding to emergencies
Some of the foxes we catch we treat and release straight away as their condition doesn't warrant hospitalisation. Such as young Romeo here, who was suffering with first stage mange. A quick spot on treatment and release means Romeo and many others like him are back out mange free, avoiding the inevitable slow decline and months of suffering that often comes with a mange infection
A short video of the moment Sammy left the carrier
Thank you everyone for your kind words of support for us and for Sammy
Sammy would surely have succumb to his injuries if it where not for the skill and dedication of the team at Medivet Heswal who performed Sammy's procedure before his rehab with us and who consistently go above and beyond for each and every fox we take to them. Please feel free to show them your support π§‘
Goodbye and good luck Arthur
Arthur has done very well and he's in top condition and ready to face the world again
Arthur was one of our more camera shy foxes which is just as well as his time in rehab with us has come to an end and he is now back out living fox life to the fullest
Not the best quality video but here you can see Arthur the gentle, disappearing back into the night
A very happy new year to all of our supporters
Thank you for being here with us this year
Thank you for allowing us to show you another side to these animals that are seldom seen in this way, and what beautiful and unique individuals they are
Here's to another year of making a difference
Well it was certainly touch and go for a minute back there but the worst is well over for this little one
Here's she is, its Elma!
She is now walking talking and eating for herself. she is enjoying having some excersize in our private space and finaly feels well enough to play
We will continue with an extended course of medication for her as we do with all of our toxo foxes and as you can see It wont be long now before she is living her best life in sanctuary
We've got lots to share but here is a short video to demonstrate how far she has come from her paralytic state
Well done Elma β€
