Here's Minnie

We caught her in a trap after she was turning up in a garden displaying some worrying behaviour

She's been suffering with a mange infection, and as well as that, she has a number of puncture wounds around her body

It's that time of year where conflict is normal between siblings, resources become stretched, and dispersals and explorations lead to territorial encroachment. There's no sure fire way of knowing how she ended up this way, but given the season we can make an educated guess that it is related to rivalry in some form

Shes settled in with us now, she's feeling sorry for herself but we've started antibiotcs and mange treatment, and we're confident we can bring her back to good health

You got this Minnie 🧡

This is Polly

We caught her in a trap after reports of her turning up in a garden looking unwell

She has a severe case of mange, and as with many mange infections of this severity, it's completly taken over her life

Polly is a fox who has been suffering for some time, and it's clear to see that things have become only about survival, shes only young, and her spark has gone.

It wasn't always this way for her, but she's become more unwell as the infection has progressed. she has tried her best to keep going against the odds, and thankfully she's ended up on our radar and in our trap

She's with us at the unit now, and she's settling in well. She's tucking into her nutritious meals, and loving the extra cozy beds. We've started treatment, we can now begin to turn things around for her

You've got this polly 🧡

Introducing Heidi - kennel 4

We caught Heidi in a trap after after she was spotted by a compassionate home owner. The poor girl was turning up in the garden looking very sorry for herself and it's clear to see why

She's been suffering with mange for some time, and lately, things have become desperate

She was turning up with several other foxes, also with mange, but the little vixen was by far the worst affected. Along with secondary bacterial infection, Heidi was a fox going down hill fast

She's with us now, and we can start to turn things around for her. We've thoroughly examined her and started her on antibiotcs along with treatment for the mites . She's tucking in to her meals and she doesnt seem to mind the cozy fleece blankets one bit

we have devised a plan to get the others treated in the field without the stress of capture while she is with us in hospital.

Updates to follow 🧡

Remember Victoria?

She came to us orphaned earlier in the year

She's now part of a group of 5 juveniles in our woodland enclosure. Toby Stanley Stevie and Eliot also came to us as dependant cubs in the spring

They are all doing amazing and in top shape

Here's Victoria when she came into the hospital, and pictures of her today from release enclosure. They are in the last stage of rehabilitation with us before they graduate and become wild foxes again

Here's Vincent, kennel 1

Vince was reported to us moving around the garden and dragging his legs behind him

Though this is almost always a bad sign, and some foxes in this condition are beyond saving, we are not in the habbit of making a call before a thorough examination.

In the past, we've had foxes like Mabel and Agnes who came to us in the same condition. After a lengthy stay in rehab with us, both foxes eventualy achieved full mobility

It requires a lot of patience and monitoring, but it was worth it to see them running and jumping as healthy adult foxes, having come to us practically paralysed and full of fly strike. Both Mabel and Agnes as an example eventualy regained full mobility and qualified for release

Vince is no different. He's a c4 spinal injury and we decided to take a chance with him given our success in the past. It was the right call, he's doing really well now, he's standing and walking and improving gradually. Soon we'll move him outside and he'll start the next stage of his journey with us

Keep it up Vince 🧡

Introducing Olaf, kennel 8

Reported to us by members of the public, Olaf was actualy on site at the location when we turned up to set a trap for him

He was peeking out from behind some bushes, and it was clear he was in serious need of immidiate help

Having noticed his desperation, rather than go ahead with the trap we sat quietly and tempted him out of the shrubs with food. We placed the food a meter in front of us and positioned the net above. As expected Olaf slowly creeped out from the bush and began to approach us. Being careful not to make any sudden movements we stayed very still and waited until he was in range of the net

The free meal was too tempting for him, and against his better judgement he took the bait. The moment he was in range of us, we brought the net down and he was caught

He's been suffering with mange for some time, and he was practically skin and bones. He's doing really well with us though and gaining more strength every day. He's making it clear that he doesn't appreciate us locking him up, but it'll all be worth it when home time comes around

Below are pictures from the day we caught him, and Olaf today

Keep it up lil guy, you got this ❤️

This is Bernard

He was found in a small sheltered container used by a goat for sleeping

He had made his way in there in search of shelter - the straw bed was all too tempting for Bernard who obviously just needed a break and somewere warm to rest his head. Thankfully, someone noticed him, blocked him in and called us

He had been suffering with mange for some time, and given that he was alarmingly under weight, Bernard was a juvenile in serious need of intervention if he was going to survive

He's doing really well at the centre with us. We've cleared the mange and he's making the most of his comfy beds here. He is now full of a wild spirit, and it won't be long at all before hes up to an acceptable weight, and we can look at taking him home to begin his life again free from burden. There's a way to go yet, but he's doing really well

Here he is on the day of capture and today

Looking good Bernard 🦊

Introducing Newt

One of 8 juveniles currently in our care, Newt was reported to us by a kind member of the public with concerns her leg may be broken

After a short chase through some brambles we managed to secure her, and it was straight up to the centre for examination. On closer inspection, we found no significant injuries, and after viewing the footage sent by the member of the public afterwards, it became clear that the problem wasn't physical

We are not sure of the exact circumstances as to how she ended up in a pickle. We are confident though that she's of an age where she knows her territory, and a den will be close. Cubs at this age are juveniles, they're spending more time away from home exploring, and they are quite capable

Coupled with the heat, we came to the conclusion that she was exhausted at the point she was found. Newt was struggling to keep herself upright which gave the impression of a physical injury

It's all good news though, she's done really well with us at the centre, and her family are waiting for her return. She's feisty and healthy as anything and has a great appetite, shes as fit as they come now, and on track to go home in a weeks time

Keep it up Newt, almost there 🧡

Peekaboo!

It's Toby ❤️

He's doing really well, and coming on nicely

He's in with his friend Stanley who came to us as an orphan, and they spend their days playing rough and tumble. we'll look to group them as our first group of 5 as soon as we can move our other 3 cubs (who we currently have on antibiotics) from isolation

We'll introduce everyone over the coming days, and no doubt more will come in that time
