Guess who!? It's Rowan 🦊

There was a fox under those scabs after all πŸ˜‰

Its a shame that the first things Rowan see's are our strange human faces the second hes able to open his eyes again, but he wont have to put up with us forever

He's not impressed with the special baths, but we can tell he's starting to feel a little more like himself now that we've removed the majority of the crusts and scabs and he's able to feel something other than itchy and sore

Introducing Rowan

We've been playing hide and seek with Rowan over the last couple of days as we follow reports of him appearing in various places

Our work finally paid off though, and we caught Rowan in a cage trap

The little one has been suffering for some time and after months of trying to survive without his parents and with a severe mange infection things have started to take a toll, and Rowan is exhausted

It's not all bad news though, we have caught him and he's safe with us now. This marks the end of his suffering. He's cuddled up in a warm bed and we are going to get to work on him and turn things around for the poor lad

Moon is doing well, and well on the road to recovery

She likes to have a good grumble at us when we're too close, but who can blame her. It's not all bad though, she's straight into her food and loves a good fleece blanket, and will fiercely protect it

She's coming on nicely and if she continues to improve at this rate, we'll be looking at releasing her in 2 - 3 weeks time

02/07/2024

Introducing Moon

One of our newest patients, Moon was reported to us by compassionate residents who had spotted her wandering the streets in the day time looking very sorry for herself

We set a trap for her the same day and she was caught by the following morning

It's just as well we did catch her as she is extremly vulnerable right now with various things going on, and it wouldn't have been long before the inevitable would happen in her current state

We've settled her in to a warm bed and she's had a good meal, and we can now begin to turn things around for her

Here's Ethel,

She was found collapsed at an allotment in the middle of the day

Ethel has made a remarkable recovery in a short space of time considering how she was when we arrived to her

We are keeping a close eye on her, and it's looking good

Her bloods are clean and she is reacting appropriately to our presence. We'll keep her in to finish the course of antibiotics, and if she continues to improve there's no reason why we can't take her home as soon as she's finished 🧑

Introducing Eddie

We caught Eddie in a cage trap after he was reported looking very sorry for himself

He's in a bit of a state and it's a good job we caught him, as with the warmer weather it doesn't take long before wounds such as these are infested with flies. He also has several burst abcess full of puss in between his toes, wich is why poor Eddie has been reluctant to put the foot to the floor. Given that Eddie was also reported to have a limp, this explains why

We've cleaned and dressed his wounds and started him on anti biotics. He's settled in and we'll look at getting him sorted and back out as soon as he is ready

Our gratitude to staff at Roofcare Wirral who found this little chap hiding in their warehouse. They secured the cub in the office while they waited for us to arrive πŸš‘

On the face of it, it looked like a simple case of missadventre. Upon examination though, we suspect there's something else going on. We've started him on anti biotics while we wait for results. We are hoping it's a quick turn around and we can get him back home where he belongs 🦊🌿

From a sad and paralysed cub to a fully functioning adult fox

It's taken some time, and after a long journey with us, she's almost ready

This is her last stint in a captive environment with us. It won't be too long now before we can open the door and grant her freedom 🧑

Our events team are at Cool Heswal, hill house gardens today! come along, say hi and grab a fox Teddy 🦊

Every penny raised goes towards our work with foxes

UPDATE: Our team had a fantastic time at this event today. Thank you to the organisers and everyone who supported us. Special thanks go to a young boy who brought us a big bag of fleecy blankets and puppy pads for the foxes - he’d sold his unwanted toys and wanted to use the proceeds to help the local foxes. Thank you, Isaac!

We even met a kind supporter who is going to walk the forthcoming Coastal Walk in aid of Wirral Fox Rescue! It's just amazing to see so much support for us, and for our foxes 🧑

* URGENT NOTICE *

Last night we were called to a fox that had been hit and killed by a car 30 minutes before. After a quick examination it was evident that the fox was lactating, she was likely on her rounds collecting food

This means that it is highly likley there are orphaned cubs in the area

Cubs at this time are far too young to be on their own and won't survive without a parent

We are urging local residents to keep their eyes and ears peeled in the approximate area of

REEDS LANE, MORETON, CH46

You may hear cubs vocalising and calling for mum. As they become more desperate, you may see them out at any time of the day

This is Mason

One of our more poorly patients, Mason is in the throws of toxoplasmosis

He was found collapsed and fitting in a garden

We've started him on medication to combat the infection. He's had multiple seizures, so we're also treating him to try and bring these under control

In our experience with toxo he'll never be totally normal, but we are hopefull we can salvage a good quality of life for him

Introducing Lumi

Found wandering on a public footpath in the middle of the day, Lumi is a fox who likes to take a laid back approach

On examination, lumi was covered in ticks and battling an eye infection that was impairing his vision

Healthy cubs want to hide and cower from us but Lumi is not scared of us in the slightest, so further investigation is needed to try to determine the underlying reason for this

He has a great appetite and other aspects of his development and behaviour are normal, so we are hopeful we can begin to change his perception, wich will keep him alive when he is reintroduced to the wild. If not, we'll find him somewhere safe to call home

03/05/2024

We were called to a hospital recently after a cub had managed to get her head stuck in a drain entrance

She was completely flat and had lost a lot of blood. The quick thinking nurses wrapped the cub up and rubbed honey on her gums while they waited for us to arrive, and these actions helped to save the cubs life

We whisked her away straight to our vet where she was triaged and stitched back up. Initially, her temp was so low it was unreadable, and glucose at a dangerously low level. A couple of days later and a lot of tlc with us, and she was ready to go home. She's a very lucky cub with a second chance

We wanted to share this short video made by one of the nurses who helped to rescue her 🧑

Here's Donny

Donny ran into a kebab shop on a busy street and hid behind the counter

We can only assume something has happened nearby, but there was no way to safely reunite him in the location he was found

Hes okay though, and he's in good health. We'll soon move him to an outside pen with other cubs, and this will help to enable his development 🦊

Introducing Penny

Penny was found wandering alone in the rain and calling out for mum in the middle of the day

It appeared that Penny had been lost for some time as she was soaking wet and ravenous

We took her straight to the centre and got her warmed up. On closer inspection, it would appear that Penny has a problem with her vision

She has been diving into her food bowl and really enjoying her meals

We've started treatment with her and she's booked in to see our vet for further investigation. For now, she's safe and warm and in high spirits

🦊CUB RELEASE SITES WANTED🦊

We are apealing for release sites for our orphaned cubs

We currently have 10 cubs in, making up 3 groups, and we're only just getting started

By group, cubs are kept in an enclosure at prospective release sites from August onwards. During this time, fosterers will need to feed and clean the cubs until they are ready to go some weeks later. Once the enclosure door is open, the cubs will be supportive fed each day in much the same way, while they find their way in the wild. Eventualy, the cubs will establish their own territory in the area, and won't return to the open enclosure, completing the release process

This is an amazing oppertunity to get involved. You would need the time each day to feed and clean the cubs, you would need to live somewhere rural with no major roads. No hunts or shoots and no other cubs presently. If this is you, please get in touch with us directly

We've more introductions to come, including the sleepiest of survivors (Pictured, non releasable cub)

Introducing our 5th cub, Bandit

Bandit was found on the hard shoulder of the m56 trying desperately to eat at anything close to him, he was starving

When he was found, he was trying to eat nettles and considering how under weight little bandit is, we can only assume something has happened to mum some time ago

He has a full tummy now, and hes safe and warm with us. Updates to follow 🧑

Introducing our second cub, Edith

She's been quite poorly since admission last week, this is mostly due to the fact that Edith was on her own for 48 hours before anyone noticed her

But she's turned a corner now and things are really looking up for her

Whatever you're doing on this gloomy Monday, take a minute to watch Edith's video and see if she doesn't brighten your day πŸ¦ŠπŸ™‚

Bobby's doing well

He's all healed up, and almost at a point where we can think about finding him a home. We can't release Bobby because his injuries where so horrific that we had to have a front leg amputated, and this will affect his survivability in the wild

Spaces are few and far between, but he's got plenty of spirit, and we can see that he will have a great quality of life in a sanctuary setting

Introducing Rolo

Rolo was born approx 3-4 weeks ago, and was found alone on a building site

There's no realistic prospect of reuniting him due to the circumstances in wich he was found

It was a little touch and go at first, but he now has a great appetite and he can't help but snuggle into the warm fluffy blankets.

We'll look at grouping him with others of a similar development but for the time being we'll carry on with supportive care and make sure Rolo get's the best start to life after such an ordeal

She's gaining a little more strength and coordination each day

She likes to hide when we're around, but as soon as we are gone, we can see on our cameras she likes to practice her gymnastics

Keep it up Agnes 🧑

Introducing Bobby

When we arrived to him, Bobby was well and truly in the wars

His leg was completely severed, and hanging on by just a piece of skin. What's worse is that he had been in this way for some time, and infection had taken hold

We took him straight to our fantastic vet, where it was determined that the leg would need to come off if we were to save his life

He's recovering with us at the centre now. His appetite has improved and he's loving his extra comfy blankets. We have him on ab support and pain relief and we're giving him plenty of tlc

It's a front amputation, so there's no realistic prospect of release. Foxes do well after a back amputation but front is a different story all together. He will be mobile enough to enjoy life, but his hunting days are now behind him. It's early days in recovery yet, but we'll be looking at finding Bobby a space in sanctuary, so he can live the rest of his days in peace and safety. In the mean time we'll continue on with supportive care, and aim to set him up for a good quality of life going forward
