Preparations for the week ahead. First on the list is charging up the SaferPet tracker. A new service to improve security and safety on walks. Accurate to within 10m throughout the whole of Europe, how brilliant is that!

Who will be the first to trial it, probably Rosie 🐾.

If all goes well, each dog will have a tracker and you’ll be able to see their activity levels and where they’ve been. The first walk may get added onto the page but after that you’ll be able to ask me for their details. Looking forward to this trial tomorrow xx

So I had a list of items I really wanted to find on my recent ‘Crufts’ visit. And I wasn’t disappointed!

The first one I’m happy to introduce is personalised towelling dog robes. Now the dogs can paddle to their hearts delight and these beautiful robes can aid in the drying process. All while they sleep, dreaming of their days adventures, on the journey home.

And even better my lovely clients can buy their own robes with a fab 15% discoubt, from the one and only, original DogRobes by quoting code RUBY15. Happy shopping 🐾 dogrobes.co.uk

In view of the incoming Storm Eunice, tomorrow walks may be later than usual. If it’s unsafe I’ll make that call tomorrow. Unfortunately all the areas that are advised to steer clear of are the wonderful places we walk 🙈. Stay safe everyone

Update 18 Feb: Any bookings for outdoor activities at Wirral leisure centres have been cancelled today (Feb 18). Municipal golf courses are also closed today. Please follow Invigor8 for further updates.

Schools will communicate with parents/guardians directly if any closures are required.

Landican Cemetery Office and the Book of Remembrance will close from 12pm today (18 Feb). If any families are concerned with funerals booked in this afternoon then these can be rearranged through funeral directors. Please note: the public telephone line will not be answered once the office is closed.

Storm Eunice: Following our update yesterday, Merseyside has been issued an amber weather warning with the majority of activity expected between 10am-3pm on Friday (18 Feb). Here’s the latest info:

We have been advised the following locations are likely to see waves topping. Avoid the coastline across the borough but in particular these areas:
➡ South Parade, West Kirby
➡ North Parade, Hoylake
➡ Meols Parade, Meols
➡ Kings Parade and Ian Fraser Walk, New Brighton
➡ Mersey River Wall, New Brighton to Seacombe
➡ Woodside Business Park, Birkenhead
➡ The Dell, New Ferry

Residents who live within a flood risk area like the ones listed above will already know the importance of a flood plan. Keep a fully charged phone, torch and important documents upstairs in waterproof storage. More advice is available via thefloodhub.co.uk/household

The following roads will be closed on Friday 18 Feb from 9.30am until at least 4pm. Access will remain for residents and businesses.
🚧 New Brighton: whole of front from Harrison Drive to Rowson Street and Fort Perch Rock Car Park
🚧 West Kirby: Dee Lane/South Parade

People are generally advised to only travel if absolutely essential. The weather could cause significant issues on public roads, and bus, rail and sea transport schedules.

With strong winds forecast, we are urging people to steer clear of woodland areas and parks. If you see a tree along the road then please call StreetScene on 0151 606 2004 (9am-5pm, Mon-Fri) or 0151 647 7810 (out of hours). If you’re in immediate danger, please call 999. If you experience a power cut then call 105 to report this to your provider.

Bin collections may be affected tomorrow (18 Feb). Due to high winds expected throughout the night, please only place your bin out as close to 7am as possible. Once it is emptied, bring it back to your property as soon as you can to prevent it becoming a hazard. Crews may be called back in if the weather becomes too bad – if your whole road is missed then crews will aim to come back the following day. If just your bin is missed and the rest of the road has been emptied, please report this via wirral.gov.uk/missedbin

Please be advised that our social media channels are not the best option to report a problem. Most issues can reported via our website: wirral.gov.uk

Dog owners please share with friends…

PLEASE BE AWARE
Vets are reporting higher than usual occurrenced of gastroenteritis in dogs which is fitting with a wider phenomenon as reported by The Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET). So far we have found that the cases seen- whilst clearly being poorly- have responded well to treatment.
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) advise that with prompt veterinary treatment almost all dogs make a full recovery from this uncommonly violent gastric bug.

How Is This Vomiting Bug Different?

According to Vet Dr Danielle Greenberg of SAVSNET, this vomiting bug is unusual due to:

- Prolific vomiting of 5 or more episodes in a 12 hour period which can stop for a period (such as overnight) and then starts again
- Dogs are often unable to keep water down at peak vomiting stage
- Anorexia and lethargy for 2-5 days
- Diarrhoea: Most dogs have ‘gravy-like’ diarrhoea

Full recovery can take 5-10 days

What We Know So Far:
This outbreak is affecting areas across the Midlands, Wales, the North of England and Northern Ireland.

The illness is most likely a virus but has not yet been identified.
Seems to be dog-specific, thankfully humans don’t appear to be at risk.
This is not caused by Parvo or Salmonella

If necessary get vet advice asap. Some insurance companies and food companies have 24 hour vet advice for members. Check if you do.
