Valentine’s Day isn’t just for roses and romantic dinners - our furry friends deserve a little extra love too! Whether it’s a new toy, their favourite treat, or a belly rub marathon, they’ll adore being spoiled.

🍫 Reminder from us: Keep chocolates well out of paw’s reach (no matter how persuasive those puppy eyes are), since they’re toxic for pets, and make sure any flowers you bring home are pet safe.

Are you pampering your pet this Valentine’s Day? Show us in the comments below! 🐶🐱💕

Have you ever wondered how your pet bird perceives you? 🦜🐓

When birds are raised or spend significant time with their human families, they can imprint on you, forming a strong bond and often viewing you as a parental figure.

This unique connection leads to deep affection, but it’s important to allow your bird moments of independence to ensure they remain happy and healthy.

A balanced relationship is key for their well-being!

🐍🦎 If you are a reptile owner, we recommend that you routinely check their skin for any yellow patches or sores. If these are present, it may be a sign of Yellow Fungus Disease.

Commonly found around the head, feet and limbs, these patches can develop into open sores which can lead to scarring and further infection. It is highly infectious to other reptiles, so quick treatment is vital.

If you are worried about your reptile's skin, it is best to book an appointment as soon as possible.

We understand the thought of surgery might feel a bit daunting, but spaying and neutering isn’t just about avoiding surprise litters - it’s also about giving your pet a chance to lead a healthier life.

Here are our top reasons to recommend spaying and neutering:

👉 Neutered males are less likely to roam and have no risk of developing testicular tumours.

👉 Spayed females have a reduced risk of developing certain tumours and serious health conditions, such as womb infection (pyometra).

If you have questions or concerns, give us a call. We’re always happy to discuss what’s best for you and your pet. 🩺🐾

As the weather gets colder, cats often try to find dry, sheltered hiding spots. For this reason, it is very common for cats to crawl into car engines and wheel wells, and they can easily get injured if they're still in there when the car is started!

Please remember to:

🐈 Bang loudly on the bonnet and honk the horn

🐈 Take a quick look under the car and check over the tyres

🐈 If you start your car and hear any unusual noise, immediately turn it off!

These simple steps will give cats a chance to escape and avoid unnecessary accidents!

Did you know that coughing is a protective response that helps keep the airway clear? 🤔

That’s why dogs, like humans, cough if they accidentally choke on something they’ve eaten, and many respiratory infections can also lead to coughing due to airway inflammation.

But, sometimes, coughing can mean there is a problem in a different organ – the heart! 🫀

If your dog has a heart problem, their blood isn’t circulating well, which causes the blood vessels to leak. This fluid often builds up in the lungs, which can happen over time or very quickly, resulting in breathing difficulties and coughing.

As there are so many causes that can lead to coughing, it’s important to bring your dog to the practice so we can investigate. 🔎

Dental disease is very common in dogs and cats, even when there are no overt signs of oral issues. This means caring for your pets’ dental healthy is key, which requires both home care and professional veterinary attention. 🦷

During annual check-ups, we thoroughly examine your pet's teeth and may recommend a dental cleaning under general anaesthesia to remove tartar buildup.

While you may see anaesthesia-free dental procedures advertised, these pose significant risks. ⚠️ Performing dental work on a pet who is awake is not safe, as it increases the chances of accidental injury, damage to their teeth, pain and discomfort due to prolonged restraint.

Additionally, such procedures are typically performed by individuals who lack formal veterinary training, and who cannot properly assess your pet’s dental health and identify signs of significant dental problems, which could put your pet's overall health at risk.

For the best dental care for your pet, schedule a check-up with us! 🦷

Since rabbit teeth grow continuously throughout their lives, it’s essential to make sure they can wear them down to prevent problems. 🐰

They can wear down their teeth by eating 85-90% of high-quality hay or fresh grass daily and chewing on appropriate materials, such as rabbit-safe toys.

When their teeth overgrow, this results in mouth pain, refusing to eat, and gastrointestinal problems.

Bringing them in for regular dental checks is also important to ensure your bunny’s teeth are at a healthy length.

If we find the teeth are too long, we need to trim them, usually under general anaesthesia, so that your bunny is safe and comfortable.

Get in touch with us if your bunny needs a dental check-up!
