Meet the dream team: Freddie and Teddy! 🐾💕

This dynamic duo recently visited our Brighouse practice. Freddie came in to get his sore ears checked out. 🐶👂 We took some swabs, ran tests, and sent him home with some medicine to help him feel better!

And, of course, Freddie wasn’t going solo - his trusty sidekick, Teddy, tagged along for some extra moral support! 😍 Because who wouldn’t need their bestie when visiting the vet?

Freddie’s all set for a follow-up in a couple of weeks, and we’re excited to see him back to his happy, healthy self soon! 🐾🎉

Meet Rupert! 🐶 When Rupert visited our Waterloo Practice for a stage one dental procedure, he enjoyed lots of cuddles with our Registered Nurse, Lizzie.

Rupert can be a little nervous, so he was thrilled with the distraction! We performed X-rays and investigated thoroughly to see if Rupert required any extractions.

We look forward to seeing Rupert again in a few days for a post-op check. 🦷

🩸 Just like in human healthcare, our patients sometimes also need donated blood, and supplies are currently running low.

Your dog’s donation could provide lifesaving blood transfusions for other dogs across the country, and every unit of blood your dog donates can help save the lives of up to four other dogs across the UK. 🇬🇧🐾

To become a blood donor, your dog must:
✔️ Be fit and healthy
✔️ Be aged between 1-8 years old 🎂
✔️ Weigh more than 25kg ⚖️
✔️ Have a good temperament 🐶
✔️ Have never travelled abroad ✈️
✔️ Be vaccinated 💉
✔️ Not be on any medication 🚫💊

If your dog meets these criteria and you’d like to help save the lives of other dogs, sign up today via the Pet Blood Bank UK website >> www.petbloodbankuk.org 🐾🩸💙

Meet Bailey 🐾

Bailey recently visited our Brighouse practice for his annual booster vaccination. He's such a sweet and jolly boy and a true gentleman! 😍

While here, his Pawrents mentioned that he has been experiencing some discomfort with his tail. After discussing it with our Veterinary Surgeon, Fran, we were pleased to find that there were no major concerns.

Ensuring your dog's safety while out for a walk is crucial. As this month is Walk Your Dog Month, here are some helpful tips to keep both you and your pet safe... 🐾

🦮 Make sure your dog is attached to a well-fitting harness and lead. A harness is often safer than a collar as it evenly distributes pressure and avoids strain on their neck.

✨If you're walking early in the morning, during the evening, or in low light, wear reflective gear such as a vest or a jacket with reflective strips, and make sure your dog has a light-up collar or reflective lead. This will help other pedestrians and drivers see you both.

🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Stick to quieter streets or parks with minimal traffic. High-traffic areas pose more risks to your dog's safety.

🐕 Always keep your dog on a lead when walking in areas where they might come across other dogs, wildlife, or traffic. If you do let your dog off the lead, make sure it's a safe, enclosed area where they can run free without any risks.

⚠️🚴‍♂️🐶 Keep a lookout for potential dangers, such as loose dogs, bicycles, or hazardous objects like broken glass. Awareness can prevent accidents.

🌞❄️ Exercise your responsibility and care by avoiding walking in the midday heat on hot days and on cold days and being mindful of your dog's paws and coat.

🌿🍄 Be cautious of plants and fungi your dog may sniff or eat during walks. Many common plants, such as lilies or foxgloves, can be toxic to dogs. If you're unsure, avoid letting them nibble or chew on unfamiliar plants.

💧 Bring water for both you and your dog, especially if you're walking for an extended time. Dehydration can cause serious issues, particularly on warm days.

🏞️🔥 Be mindful of rough terrain or hot pavements, as they can hurt your dog's paws.

🐕 Training will help your dog walk calmly by your side and obey commands, making it easier to keep them safe in busy or unpredictable situations.

By following these tips, you can ensure a safe, enjoyable walk for both you and your dog, no matter the weather or location. 🌦️

Meet 7 year old Bandit! 🐶

Bandit was referred to our rehabilitation centre to manage an idiopathic lameness in his right back leg. ❤️‍🩹

When our veterinary physiotherapists first met Bandit, he was very guarded with his back and hind limbs. 🙅🏼‍♀️ However, Bandit visits our Rehabilitation Centre regularly for both physiotherapy and hydrotherapy and he has improved massively. 🤩 We have also collaborated as a team with his Veterinary Surgeon to make sure he has timely adjustments to his pain medication. 💚

Bandit is feeling much better that he now allows our vet physios to massage his back and legs, he is such a good boy! 🙌 We also then go through Bandit's tailored exercise plan and alter this if needed. His owner is fantastic at making sure he does all of his home exercises. 💪🏻 Bandit then gets to do his favourite bit, which is hydrotherapy in our underwater treadmill! 🌊

Keep up the good work Bandit!

Meet Bernie, who recently visited our Brighouse practice for his second vaccination. 🐾

Bernie is also a member of our Pet Health for Life family, so her appointment was included in her plan.

Our Veterinary Surgeon, Joanna, also gave great tips on keeping Bernie’s pearly whites sparkling clean with proper dental care. 🦷

Well done, Bernie - keep up the great work! 🐶🦷

Did you know that dental care is a crucial part of your dog’s overall health? Just like us, dogs need healthy teeth and gums to stay happy and active! 🐶💕

Why is it so important?

🦷 Regular dental care helps prevent painful dental issues and keeps your dog’s teeth happy and healthy.

💚 Poor dental hygiene can lead to other serious health problems, like heart and kidney disease. Keeping your pup’s teeth healthy means a healthier pup!

👃 Dental care doesn’t just keep teeth clean - it also helps freshen up your dog’s breath. No more stinky kisses! 😘

Here’s how you can help:

Brush those teeth! 🪥 Make brushing fun and part of your daily routine.
Chew toys to the rescue! 🦴 Help your dog clean their teeth while they play.

Dental treats: Your dog will love these tasty treats while keeping their mouth healthy! Just be sure not to overfeed, as too many treats can lead to obesity.

Check-ups: Keep an eye on their oral health with regular visits to our practice.

Meet Hopper! 🐰💙 Hopper recently visited our Wakefield branch for castration, and here he is post-op, getting all the love and care he deserves from our Registered Veterinary Nurse, Becca. After his procedure, Hopper stayed warm and cosy while being hand-fed—because it's super important for rabbits to eat as soon as possible after anaesthesia. 🥕✨

Did You Know? Walking your dog can boost their mental health!

Taking your dog for regular walks isn't just about exercise – it's a fantastic way to improve their mental well-being, too!

Here's how a walk can help them...

🌟 Reduces anxiety and stress: Walks help release mood-boosting endorphins, calming anxious dogs and easing stress.

🌟 Stimulates their mind: New sights, sounds, and smells keep your dog's brain engaged, preventing boredom and frustration.

🌟 Provides structure and routine: Regular walks create a sense of security and predictability for your dog.

🌟 Builds confidence: Exploring new environments and meeting new people or dogs helps your dog feel more secure and confident.

🌟 Enhances social skills: Walks are great for meeting other dogs and people, helping your dog become more socially comfortable.

🌟 Prevents behavioural issues: A mentally and physically active dog is less likely to develop undesirable behaviours like chewing or digging.

Walks are more than just a physical activity – they're a boost to your dog's happiness and mental health! Get outside and explore together this Walk Your Dog Month. 🐶💚

Meet our rehabilitation star of the month ⭐

1 year old Juniper the cat! 🐱

At 4 months old, Juniper was diagnosed with suspected polyneuropathy, causing his gait to be wobbly and have weak back legs. ❤️‍🩹

We have been seeing Juniper for regular consults at our Rehabilitation Centre since last August. When we first met Juniper, he was very wobbly and struggled with his foot placements in his back legs.

During his consults with our veterinary physiotherapists, Juniper has laser treatment and physiotherapy. ⚡️He is such a good boy and loves a massage! 🙌

Juniper has made great progress with our veterinary physiotherapists by becoming more active and coordinated, his owner tells us he has become more playful and can now manage to climb his cat tree. 💪🏻🤩

Keep up the good work Juniper! 😻
