💜 Lola 💜

Say hello to the lovely Lola! This 9-month-old Labrador has joined the Ultimutts Crew temporarily while her owner recovers from an operation. We’re absolutely delighted to have her with us!

So far, Lola has enjoyed a solo, duo and pack walk—and she’s been an absolute star every step of the way. I am already smitten! 🐾

One thing we’re working on is helping her feel more confident getting into vehicles—it’s not her favorite activity right now, but we’re planning to take it slow, building her trust and hope that she learns to associate it with going somewhere enjoyable!

Welcome to the crew, Lola! We’re so happy to have you. 💜

🐶 Big it up for the dog walkers this Christmas!🐶

Dog walkers :

🐾 Walk whether it’s raining, windy, snowing or a bank holiday- so you don’t have to

🐾 Deal with mud, puddles, drool and p**p

🐾 Have hidden overheads such as many tanks of fuel, poo bags, equipment like leads, bags, walking belts, gloves, coats, wellies (all needing regular replacement), etc laundry for dirty towels, Insurance and further education such as canine first aid

🐾 Look after your dogs as if they were their own and would risk their own life to save theirs if it came to it

🐾 Often walk with aches, illness and injuries but smile through the pain

🐾 Get paid nothing if they take time off sick or customers cancel last minute

We do what we do not for money, but for the love of dogs . We charge only what we need to to ensure all the above is taken care of and your dogs are in the safest and most loving of Hands. They are worth their weight in gold!

If you are a dog walker, employ a dog walker or know a dog walker share this post to show your support this Christmas!

“Keeping tails wagging safely! 🐾⛑️

I’ve just completed Level 3 Canine First Aid—because your pup’s health and safety are always my top priority. 🐶 Staying updated with practical skills and knowledge ensures your dog gets the best care possible.

This time, I chose to refresh my skills with and even got hands-on practice—not just with toy dogs, but with the lovely Tilly and Bella, who joined us for the day. 🐕💕 Huge thanks to them for being such patient helpers!

It’s been BIG COAT weather this week! ❄️⛄️

Here’s a selection of todays photos, first up is Lenny and I. Followed by Olive, Rupert, Ruby, Reggie, Betty, Betty, Bobby and Miley!

Thanks again to everyone who helped today by letting me know how safe their roads were for collecting dogs, those who walked to meet me for morning pick ups, the offers of hot drinks and generally the understanding from you all. When the roads are bad, it’s not the easiest job to have and I can’t be more grateful to everyone who were understanding and mindful of me driving around today. All dogs got their walkies! And I have had such a lovely week with the pooches, we have all enjoyed the snowy walks ❤️

Though I am coming out of this week with a cold, so lemsip has been purchased and I’m hoping to get the worst of it over with before next week starts- let’s hope!

🐕 Happy half-term! 🐕

We’re making the most of the break with plenty of autumn walks and fresh air for all our furry friends booked in 🍂🐾 Every pup is loving the chance to get out, explore, and soak up the season! Some are especially enjoying getting a bit too familiar with the mud, so a friendly reminder to keep those towels by the door—I’ll do my best to send them home with only half the forest on them!

It’s a quieter week, which means I’m actually getting time for lunch—imagine that! 🤭

To all the dogs on holiday this week, hope you’re having the best time, and I can’t wait to see you next week!

Why I (Generally) Avoid Ball Play on Group Walks 🎾❌

You might wonder why you rarely see me throwing balls during group walks—and it’s not just because I’m better at catching and throwing netballs than tennis balls! 😂 While ball play is great fun, there are a good reasons I steer clear of it when we’re out with a group of dogs or around unknown dogs:

1. Building Relationships, Not Fixations : Dogs can easily become ball-obsessed (we’ve all seen it!), which takes their focus off engaging with the group or me as their handler. I’d rather they enjoy sniffing, socialising, and building that all-important bond with me, rather than getting laser-focused on chasing a ball.

2. Avoiding Resource Guarding : Some dogs can get very protective over the ball, and what starts as fun can quickly turn into competition—or even a disagreement! No one wants to referee a doggy squabble over a toy.

3. Keeping the Group Balanced: Group walks are all about calm, controlled fun, and throwing a ball into the mix can sometimes hype up the energy a bit too much. It’s much easier to keep things smooth and enjoyable without the added chaos of ball chasing.

4. Preventing Accidents: With several dogs chasing after one ball, there’s a risk of collisions or over-excitement, which could lead to injuries. I prefer to keep things safe and steady for everyone.

5. Protecting Joints and Health: Repeatedly sprinting after a ball and making quick, sharp turns can put unnecessary strain on a dog’s joints, especially for younger or older dogs. Over time, this kind of repetitive motion can lead to long-term issues with joint health and mobility, so I prioritise walks that are gentler on their bodies.

So, while I’m always up for a game of netball, I leave the ball play for one-on-one sessions or an absolute one off treat for dogs I know extreamly well in a safe and secure setting. This keeps our group walks safe, balanced, and healthy for all. Happy walks = happy dogs! 🐾 🫶🏻

The Benefits of Being a One-Man Band Dog Walker 🐾

Following on from my last post about the challenges of being a sole trader, I want to highlight the benefits of choosing a one-person business like mine for your dog walking needs. While running a small business has its challenges, there are many perks for both my clients and, most importantly, your dogs:

🩷Personalised Care: As the sole person walking your dog, I truly get to know their personality, needs, and quirks. I can tailor each walk to your dog’s preferences, whether it’s a high-energy adventure or a relaxed stroll.
❤️Consistency: Your dog will always be walked by me—no handovers to different staff members, which helps build trust and comfort.
🧡Clear Communication: You’ll always be dealing directly with me, ensuring easy updates and specific requests for your pet.
💛Flexible & Adaptable: With advanced notice, I’m happy to accommodate evenings, weekends, and other flexible schedules.
💚Stable, Consistent Groups: I walk a familiar group of dogs, which creates a stable, enjoyable environment for your pet.
🩵Strong Local Connections: I have relationships with trusted local pet services for backup care if I’m ever away.
💜Building Bonds: Over time, I form a close bond with every dog in my care, allowing me to notice changes in their mood or health quickly.

I love what I do, and being a sole trader lets me provide a truly personal, dedicated service. Thank you to all my clients for trusting me with your amazing dogs—it’s a privilege! 🥰🐕

Behind the Scenes of a Sole Trader Dog Walker 🐾

Being a dog walker is a passion, but it also comes with its challenges—especially as a sole trader. Unlike general employees, we don’t have sick pay or colleagues to step in when we’re unwell. Many of us push through illness or minor injuries to ensure your pets are cared for. As long as we feel able to keep your dogs safe and happy. But sometimes, life throws curveballs that are out of our control.

Over the years, I’ve seen other dog walkers face unexpected issues:

- Falls leading to broken bones
- Dog bites that have led to hospital stays
- Family emergencies like a sick child
- Vehicle breakdowns
- Health scares

Or like me two months ago being in a non fault vechile collison in working hours a couple months ago.

And we all have to manage extreme weather like snow days, assess and manage the risk and making decisions to not work on occasions it is unsafe or putting the dogs health and wellbeing at risk.

In these rare instances, I do my best to adapt to avoid cancelling and adapt my services where possible. Should cancellation be ever be required then I will always provide as much notice as possible.

My priority will always be to ensuring those who need the service most are looked after, which involved following my procedure to check in with clients to see who’s home and which dogs are on their own.

It’s important to remember that it’s a two-way street! Just as I try to be understanding of my clients’ needs and challenges, I expect the same. Clear communication helps me to provide the best service possible, including notice for any scheduling change requests. I hate saying no, but on a fully booked day there are times I cannot provide a service at short notice. However, I will always endeavour to support you to find a suitable option for care - if possible. Together, we can keep things running smoothly for both the dogs and the humans involved. 🐾

Thank you to my amazing clients and many of my dog walking colleagues for your continued support! I love my job and taking care of the Ultimutts Crew 🐶💙
