Keeping your pooches safe in the heat 🤒 Homemade dog ice pops are easy to make and an ideal treat to keep them cool at this time of year. bone broth, greek yogurt(xylitol-free), peanut butter( xylitol-free) and salmon oil can all be used (maybe not all at once🤮), add a couple of their favourite biscuits, pop in an ice cube tray, on a lick mat, in a kong (or tub if you don't have any if the above) and freeze for around an hour. Carrots! An excellent source of fibre, can be frozen for an extra long lasting chew! Cucumbers! Providing vitamin K, C & B can also be frozen. When giving any animal frozen treats you have to ensure you don't send their body in to shock, give frozen treats in moderation! If you think your dog needs ice in it's water bowl, it probably doesn't. Cool water directly from the tap will be perfectly fine. Cooling the inside of their body too quickly can lead to hyperthermia. Cooling your dog from the outside of their body is an excellent way to help bring heat down as they can't sweat like us humans, a cool wet towel to lay on will help with this.
