It's goodbye from me (for now, at least). Thank you so much to all of my lovely customers, it has been a real joy to work with your wonderful pups. Good luck to you all with your new groomers, and if you see me out on dog walks then please come and say hi! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year ๐คโค๏ธ๐พ
The dreaded fireworks season is nearly upon us. Desensitisation, using videos or audio devices combined with treats and play, is a great way to avoid stressed pets when the real thing happens. You can start slow, with just a few minutes or even a few seconds for really anxious animals, and build up gradually.
Unfortunately, some animals never get used to it and it can be a very traumatic time. So it's a good idea to be prepared early with relaxing music and providing a cosy nest or den area where your pet can feel at least some sense of comfort and security until it has passed. A few of their favourite treats to reward them is always nice too.
Keep an eye out for details of when public displays will be taking place and be sure to walk your dogs early and have cats and small furries inside before dark.
(Also, can you believe Margot was ever this small ๐?!?)
Spring has sprung... and so have my dogs! ๐๐๐
Fireworks desensitisation for dogs
Fireworks season is fast approaching ๐
YouTube videos or Alexa-type devices are a great way to desensitise your pups. Start with low volumes and gradually increase over time (dogs have much more sensitive hearing than we do!) playing fireworks sounds for several minutes a day a few times a week, being sure to provide plenty of fun distractions and treats at the same time. Try to ignore the sounds yourself and not make a big deal out of it, and pooch should soon learn to accept these noises without fear ๐
Water play with Margot!
Puppies don't come for their first groom until they are at least 12 weeks old, but that doesn't mean you can't introduce them to the fun of water before then! There's usually no need to give your puppy a full bath at such a young age, but some warm, shallow water can be great fun for them to have an occasional supervised play and will make it more likely that they enjoy bathing when the time comes ๐ฆ๐ฅฐ๐ฆ
Squeaky playtime!!
Some dogs love the relaxing spa music, others prefer something a little less soothing ๐๐
Also, it still amazes me how much hair comes out of these guys!!
