🐾 We have been working on Mika's (English Bulldog) excitement when she sees people which often leads to jumping up

🐾 Winnie (Springer Spaniel) walks fabulously with no distractions, but gets SUPER excited when seeing people or other dogs, so we are working on engagement with the owner and disengagement from the environment

🐾 Building a solid recall with Jasper (Cavapoo) and Leeloo (Jack Russell) through knowing when to let them off, engagement games and rewarding at the right time

Puppy Class - Week 1

Tonight we met some wonderful new puppies!

In tonight's session, we worked on:

👉 Name recognition
👉 Engagement exercises "look" & "touch"
👉 The all important "leave" cue
👉 Starting loose lead walking

🌾 Grass Seed Awareness 🌾

It's that time of year again when we need to be checking our dogs over after their walks!

This is due to grass seeds, once on the body the friction/rubbing of the dogs hair and body helps the barbs on the grass seed to work their way into the skin, most common places to find them:

🌾 Toes, ears and armpits

Other places they can get too:

🌾 Eyes, nose, airways, mouth and stomach

If you're concerned your dog has a lodged grass seed in the skin, we would always advise a trip to the vets

Fridays puppies 🥰

Today we introduced new boy, Walter (Cocker Spaniel) to the club. He did so well on his first session, we can't wait to have him back next week!

Cikku (Cockapoo) has been coming to puppy club from a small puppy, and today he graduated out as he is now 8-months 🎓

Tonight's Amazing Adolescents class 👏

In our first session with Trixie and Maggie, we covered:

👉 Engagement, "look" & "touch"
👉 All important "leave"
👉 "around" cones/objects
👉 Sit/down-stay (adding distance & duration)
👉 "Break" cue

Making sure to keep each cue fun, too maintain their attention and focus!

Top tip: Keep sessions short, flick the kettle on, grab a handful of kibble and practise!

Last night's puppy class 🎓

For our final class, we worked on building distance and duration with our sit-stays, going over the settle and engagement techniques we had covered in previous weeks, alongside recall through a tunnel of toys!

Well done to Marnie and Shadow 👏

Friday puppy club 🥰

Today Mr. Boo graduated out of puppy club 🎓 We snuffled for treats, played with toys, a good game of tug and of course had lots of cuddles!

Puppy club is for puppies 12-weeks to 8-months old, to build their confidence around other dogs, novel objects and desensitise them to different noises, people and environments.

Our 1-hour sessions are perfect for safe socialisation and learning in a positive and fun environment.

We introduced Bilson (Mini Schnauzer) to the group, he fitted in perfectly! Played games in the water, with toys, built positive associations with loud noises and of course, plenty of cuddles and play!

☀️ Summer Sun Advice ☀️

🐾 Walk early in the morning or late evening, as pavements can be HOT!

Use the back of your hand, place on pavement for 7 seconds, if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws

💦 Paddling Pools, sprinklers and other water activities (short periods of time)

🧊 Ice cubes can be used if your dog is NOT already hot (using ice with an overheated dog can have an adverse effect)

⛺️ Create shade using umbrellas, towels/ blankets in the garden

💧 Provide plenty of fresh water to keep your dogs hydrated. Add water to kibble to hydrate it if your dog isn’t a big drinker

👕 Use a cooling bandana, or make one from an old t-shirt, soak and put on your dog for short periods of time to keep cool

🌬 Keep curtains/ blinds closed and use electric fans to keep the room cool

Intermediate training tonight 👏🏻👏🏻

Very proud and impressed with how Maisie and Pepsi are doing! The girls finished our session with a nice off-lead play together 🥰
