Why Gundog Training is Good Fun – Even for Beginners!

Did you know gundog training isn’t just for field trials, working tests or shoots?
It’s a fantastic way to build a strong bond with your dog, boost obedience, control and enjoy a fun, rewarding activity together.

It’s incredibly satisfying watching your dog learn, grow in confidence and enjoy the work they were bred to do.

Curious to give it a try and see if you and your dog love it?

Our 10am session is fully booked but we have some spaces available on our 12.45 session.

Bella first joined us for Puppy Foundation and then moved up into the Advanced group — but her season arrived and paused her group training!

Since then we’ve been doing 1-2-1 sessions to help her continue progressing, and today was her final one.

Bella is such a lovely little lady and she’s doing brilliantly. We focused on polishing up her recall today, she really showed us what she can do! Keep up the good work 💪

Piper, Soda, Wren, and Brooke came along to support the session too — all looking gorgeous as always, and in true Soda fashion, she had to pull a face!! 😂

Sunday marked the end of our latest Puppy Foundation and Obedience with an Introduction to Gundog Work courses!

Both groups have made brilliant progress — it’s been fantastic to see the focus, confidence and teamwork develop over the past six weeks.

Some of our pups are moving up to Obedience with an Introduction to Gundog Work which are pets with a hobby which is fantastic, while others are doing 1-2-1s — one aiming for working tests, and another preparing to work her puppy in the future.

In our Obedience Gundog group, some are repeating the course, while others are progressing to the next level.

Puppy Foundation: Fully booked. Next course with availability starts January 2026 (times & dates TBC).

Obedience with an Introduction to Gundog Work: Starts Sunday 9 November — 10 am full, 12:45 pm spaces available.

A 48-hour cancellation policy is now in place and being implemented.

Training is Matts full-time work and spaces are limited, if a session is cancelled at short notice, it’s rarely possible to fill the spot.

👉 Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will now be charged in full.

We understand that genuine emergencies happen but short notice cancellations simply aren’t sustainable for a small business.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

We’ve noticed a few poo bags being left behind after training sessions recently. Please could everyone make sure to take their bags home with them at the end of their session or group.

We know it’s easy to forget when you’re busy packing up and getting your dog back in your vehicles but keeping the training area clean and tidy helps everyone enjoy a pleasant space.

This also keeps you on good terms with your trainer and us on good terms with the landowner! 😉

What a journey these gorgeous pups have had!
From our Puppy Foundation Course to Advanced Puppy group, they’ve grown into such confident, capable young dogs, achieving so much along the way.

Today we added a taste of gundog training, as they move up to Matt’s Obedience with an Introduction to Gundog Training next! 🤩

Missing today were Woody the Labrador, recovering from his op and Bella the Cocker Spaniel, who’s in season but catching up with 1-2-1 sessions.

So proud of this bunch, well done everyone! 👏

After a lovely break away at Moorcote farm holiday cottages, Yorkshire our group classes kicked back into action today.

We started with our Advanced Group, who had all previously attended my Puppy Foundation course. It was fantastic to see how much work they’ve put in during the break. Today’s focus was a lead walking refresher and the all-important emergency stop – brilliant effort all round.

We then had a new puppy group start. I’m looking forward to seeing how they all progress.

Next up, we had our two Obedience groups with an Introduction to Gundog Training with Matt. We covered lead walking refresher and introduced retrieving to see where each dog was at. It was so encouraging to see so much natural drive and enthusiasm from the dogs – lots of keen retrievers in the making.

We’re really looking forward to watching their progress over the coming weeks.

✨Calmness Around Other Dogs Workshop ✨

Another fantastic workshop today!

Everyone worked really hard, identified what’s been causing their challenges, and left with practical ideas to help them manage and improve.

A big well done to all the handlers and dogs for their focus and progress 👏
