It is with deep sadness I write on the untimely passing of Mark.

Mark fought hard and won some battles but as with the cruelness cancer one can never win the war 💔

Many of you trained along side him with his very mischievous pup Arthur and formed friendships together.

Marks was true gentleman with a kind loving soul and a big heart. A man who said very little yet spoke volumes.

I’m sure many of you with join me in sending our deepest sympathy and condolences to his beautiful wife Kelly and his loving family. Who’s hopes, ambitions, dreams and hearts have been broken,shattered and stolen by six little words.

“There’s nothing more we can do”

Marks funeral is 12th July 1pm at St George’s church Stalybridge then onto Dukinfield crem at 2pm

Is it true that if we use cold water on heat stroke pets they will go into shock?

One of the most common things we still hear is that we can only use tepid water on a pet with heat stroke, incase they get some complications like hypothermic overshoot, peripheral vasoconstriction hindering a cooling response, and cardiogenic shock...

We have heard not to use cold water in case it causes shock... this rarely happens!

But guess what? In a recent study over 26% of dogs presented with heat stroke died, with flat faced breeds making up nearly half of heat stroke cases seen in the study.

You should:

💧Get someone to call the local veterinary practice and tell them you're going to travel down with a heat stroke patient
💧Pour, hose or if possible immerse the pet in very cold water (this should obviously be done under constant supervision, ensuring the head is fully above water and immersion should not be attempted if the animal is too large, or you are unable to do so without hurting yourself)
💧NB: If using a hose pipe, make sure it has run through until cold, as they can often contain water that is extremely hot in the tubing initially
💧Do not drape in towels and leave them in situ. Keep the cold water flowing.
💧Move to a cool, shaded area
💧Prepare to transport to vets in a cold, air conditioned car

In studies they found that:

🌅International consensus from sports medicine organisations supports treating EHS with early rapid cooling by immersing the casualty in cold water.
🌅Ice-water immersion has been shown to be highly effective in exertional heat stroke, with a zero fatality rate in large case series of younger, fit patients.
🌅Hyperthermic individuals were cooled twice as fast by Cold Water Immersion as by passive recovery.
🌅No complications occurred during the treatment of three older patients with severe heat stroke were treated with cold‐water immersion.
🌅Cold water immersion (CWI) is the preferred cooling modality in EHS guidelines and the optimal method applicable to UK Service Personnel
🌅Studies suggest using either ice-water or cold-water immersion

The best intervention is PREVENTION, but if you find yourself with an animal with heat stroke, using cold water either by pouring, hosing or ideally (if safe) immersion then this may help reduce their temperature to safe levels while you transport to a veterinary practice.

Heartbreaking news

Beautiful Hera crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge yesterday suddenly. Suspected heart attack.

Losing any dog leaves a gaping whole in your heart in your home and within your family. Even when we know it’s thier time and you think you’re prepared but to lose your fur baby at the age of one it’s just unthinkable and totally devastating . 💔💔

During Hera all to short a life she made a difference. Her loving gentle outgoing character broken the media stigma on BSL breeds not only at dog club but within the local community.

She was a pioneer for my BSL training scheme and she impressed my examiners so much with her behaviour and loving nature they wrote a article in the canine press.

Agi and Hera proved just what a loyal responsible owner and a faithful dog can achieve.

Run free over the bridge Hera x no more horrid muzzle that you didn’t deserve 🥲

Update on little Izzy!!

Latest blood show her liver enzymes are UP !! And greatly improved since her diagnosis last August of liver failing!! Never dismiss holistic meds NEVER !!

This result is so much more then we hoped for if hers bloods had been similar and she hadn’t deteriorated we would have been happy.

But for results like this it’s just unbelievable !!!

Happy 13th Birthday my ginger prince. My adorable lovable clown.

My bossy boy my super intelligent head strong dog. My first Red & White Irish setter who has educated me so much for that I thank you.

I know our days together are getting less and those back legs have good days & bad yet you still aspire me everyday with the way you are determined not to be beaten the way you carry on doing you everyday things but most of all the way your super brain just works out another way of doing the things you are still determine to do.

No one day in 13 years have you not done something so amazing funny or just left me speechless at the tricks you’ve got up to and still do ❤️❤️❤️

Which means the adorable sweet XL Bully in my class and her highly responsible owner can not complete the scheme.

So I have devised a three level training programme just for BSL dogs.

I will never walk away from any dog or any responsible owner !!! Never !!!

It’s now been five mouths since my little divas upsetting blood results of liver failure. Here her she is being a very good girl taking her holistic medication.

Still a self proclaimed princess bright eyed, glossy coat, full of beans for a 12 1/2 yrs old & keeping her weight to.

Amazing what a change to hepatic diet and herbals can do.

Having bloods done next month fingers crossed for an improvement in the results.
