Our first SCDT Social Dog Walk of 2025!!
Will you be joining us?
These relaxed walks are basically a safe and comfortable environment for owners to socialise their dogs at a distance that suits them, without the social pressure of worry if their dog barks or lunges.
It’s a slow stroll round the field, allowing dogs to visualise eachother and learn to relax in a chosen proximity. I will be there to offer free professional advice if you’d like it, just give me a wave 👋🏻 You may bring toys, treats, use whistles, squeaky toys etc, all we ask is that you keep your dog on a lead and clear up after them to keep our lovely rec clean.
We will continue to offer this walk each month throughout 2025. The same day/ time/ location. The date will be uploaded on our socials each month so keep an eye on us 🐾

Have a lovely last ever evening of 2024!
Whilst we are toasting to welcome the new year in, please bear in mind that fireworks may be around tonight and many dogs find the sound very stressful.
Just pop the tv or radio on loud to muffle the sound, spread some treats round the house or play their favourite game, building positive associations and distracting them from a negative focus.

Thank you all for another great year of business, with many more dogs through the books here at SCDT. I’m very grateful to be a part of your training journeys.
See you next year! 🐾🙌

We’ve been quietly working away every day here, even though Groups & 1-2-1 Sessions are done for this year, so we are now taking a little break for a few days.
(Sorry if you don’t receive a reply to your email/DM for a few days).
🎄Please have your fees paid by 30th December for January Group Courses!)
We wish you all a very Merry, fun, relaxed and love-filled Christmas 🎄
Enjoy your dogs, and remember - mince pies, grapes, Xmas pudding, onions, rawhide, and many other things are dangerous for your dogs so be aware.
See y’all next year!! 🥳🐾

How do I walk my dogs?

I like to teach 3 key positions. You can do this with any breed, age, harness, collar. There will be small variations depending on your situation.

Position 1: ‘close’ this is a short & relaxed lead with the dog in the heel position, moving with you by listening to body language and vocal/ whistle cues.

Position 2: ‘sniff sniff’ this is a ranging motion around 1 meter perimeter of you (on or off lead), where the dog can sniff and explore whilst walking with you, if there becomes any lead tension, a small reminder is needed to maintain the 1 meter boundary. This helps the dog to value you, whilst learning about their environment.

Position 3: ‘free/OK’ is the cue for freedom, to let them out at a greater distance from you. On long line, or off lead. This is only advisable once you have established engagement and the dog is responsive to recall. I never recommend this position to start with on any walk. If you begin your walk with total freedom, you decrease your value.

Give it a try, see how your dog responds.
What words do you use on your walks?

Lungworm.

Lungworm is a nasty parasite passed on and carried by slugs, snails, and the trails they leave behind .
This can make it tricky for our dogs to avoid them - which is why worm treatment is included when you join The Healthy Pet Club.💜

🐾 Please keep dogs on a lead when trucks are approaching 🐾

While the convoy of trucks are working to transport shingle along the tarmac road to Pett Level, there is a higher level of risk to dogs that are not under close control.

We ask that owners keep their dogs under close control, ideally on a lead, when you see the convoy of trucks approaching.

Thank you for your cooperation.
