Exciting, award winning, all weather, educational attraction providing a fascinating insight into the watery world of North Devon. The aquarium houses a diverse collection of local aquatic life in beautifully recreated natural habitats. The exhibits provide visitors with a unique zoned journey experience starting from the SOURCE of an Exmoor stream, down RIVER to an ESTUARY, local ROCKPOOL, Ilfrac

ombe HARBOUR, to LUNDY and it's marine reserve. The aquarium also offers a funky fish retail area where good value, unusual aquatic themed gifts can be purchased. A small café with sheltered outside seating provides quality refreshments, freshly prepared sandwiches, light snacks and luxury local dairy ice cream in a relaxing environment. OPENING TIMES 2010/11

Aquarium Anglerfish...

Fri 20th April 2018 Anglerfish (Lophius piscatorius) Check out this video footage of one our prized specimens. This anglerfish has been in our collection since 2016. It was found in a local rockpool and is now approx. 2' long. With our ongoing care it maintains its' top condition. Video shows, even after this time in captivity, it still retaining it's impressive ambush and lunging natural feeding technique. This has to be one of our most impressive and extraordinary species found around our coast with it's extrordinary camouflage, razor sharp inward pointing teeth and 'fishing rod & lure' head apendage. This is why we do the work we do as people will know it more commonly as monkfish - a well known commercial species and only encounter it either dead on a restaurant plate or fishmongers slab! Best to come visit us soon as we are planning, within the next couple of months, to relocate this wonderful creature to another reputable independant native aquarium - The Lake District Coast Aquaria. Our connections with this fantastic public aquarium go back a couple of decades and we often help each other out with advice and species acquisition. They are well equiped up there with larger tanks to offer opportunity for this animal to reach it's full potential of 2m long! At that size, mmm... enjoy your next paddle in the shallows off the North Devon, coast, me thinks you may just not be alone!!
