How cute is little nutty Nora
Who's started her agility foundations π₯°π₯°
I loved this β€οΈ look at lennys nose going.
He knew he had choices and you can see when he catches some scent from the direction he needed to go
A few years ago Twiglet and I took a trip to London to film for an upcoming film - Blitz
Blitz release date was knocked back as it was chosen to open the London film Festival and a few others too.
Sadly Twig passed away a few weeks back, it was a delight to see her on the big screen at the cinema and now on TV in a scene in the film.
TV work can be odd, you can film but not make a final cut so seeing her full shot was amazing π₯°
To run ............
Or notβοΈβοΈβοΈ
Running contacts can be quite a pretentious subject, there are also thoughts on the impact on the dog physically.
I openly admit my own dog Ffion self taught hers and they are very reliable, with any missed dog walks generally being due to health or environmental factors. Disclaimer I do think the order of the contacts I trained in did factor.
Nyx is 4 today π₯³π₯³ happy birthday
Despite getting to grade 6 qualifying for olympia not olympia last year AND again this year this dog has never had a reliable running aframe ( she has the most beautiful stops on dogwalk and seesaw)
We have tried most things and she just unexplainably can't produce anything reliable, which as we all know and have probably been there at one point or another can lead to a handler folding ini themselves emotionally adding more pressure to something that is already fragile.
Last week at training after 2 beautifully rewarded running aframes the wheels fell off yet again provoking a discussion should we infact get her to stop and when due to her big semi final coming up next month.
My gut was NOW even if itnjust gets her thinking lower on the frame, we havnt consistency now and we can't really break something broken. It's worth noting that also because her stops on the other 2 contacts were extremely consistent.
In the session she got it instantly a couple of reps were like she had always had a stop and below was her at a show by all means not a polished outcome but a completely different dog.
So as ever we need to train what we have not against it, if something isn't working think outside the box.
Contacts esp running an be difficult if you havnt regular access to use equipment but things like 2 on 2off can very easily be trained at home and transfered.
So looking forward to seeing this pair progress without that deamon on either of their shoulders.
Saturdays session saw Oz decide the trail layers article definatly shouldn't have been left behind and carried it all the way to her π€£
Aparently elf on the shelf can't be trusted to be left alone.

**** Puppy recall tips ****
Here are some general tips for teaching yours puppy foundations of a good recall.
π Start in the house.
π Name - TEACH them their name as soon as they arrive, everytime you feed them their dinner or give them a sweet say their name as you do so. TEST understanding by saying their name before giving food and reward quickly if they look at you.
π Run away - Say your puppy's name and as they look at you run away from them a few steps encouraging them to follow and reward when they catch you up.
π Make it a GAME throw a sweet in the opposite direction to you once they have eaten it and turn back to you call and run away as they catch you up throw a sweet the other way and repeat.
π For best results start when your puppy is NOT engaged with something super interesting that they may ignor you.
π SLOWLY increase difficulty, distance distraction etc.
ππRemember all this happens at home, practice daily and have rewards on you so you can spontaneously ask them to recall.
ππOnce your puppy is doing this take it outside to a controlled environment, you may have to go back a few steps to start with the bigger distractions. REMEMBER keep your puppies safe use long lines if needed.
Mantrailing
Canine Cadence
Got to love an oldie π₯°π₯°π₯°π₯°
Fast asleep π΄ and dreaming when I arrived never even heard me come in
Show me your oldies ππππππ
What is mantrailing?
Have a look at this overlay.
The trail layer (top left video and the person the dog is finding) on this trail set out 30 mins before the dog was presented at the start it was a gusty day.
The dog is taught to follow the scent trail of the specific person it's finding, that scent can move arround.
The handler is taught to read the dog to be an efficient team to get to their goal.
See how Harvey works in and out of the scent to pinpoint the way she went.
