**** Puppy recall tips ****
Here are some general tips for teaching yours puppy foundations of a good recall.
π Start in the house.
π Name - TEACH them their name as soon as they arrive, everytime you feed them their dinner or give them a sweet say their name as you do so. TEST understanding by saying their name before giving food and reward quickly if they look at you.
π Run away - Say your puppy's name and as they look at you run away from them a few steps encouraging them to follow and reward when they catch you up.
π Make it a GAME throw a sweet in the opposite direction to you once they have eaten it and turn back to you call and run away as they catch you up throw a sweet the other way and repeat.
π For best results start when your puppy is NOT engaged with something super interesting that they may ignor you.
π SLOWLY increase difficulty, distance distraction etc.
ππRemember all this happens at home, practice daily and have rewards on you so you can spontaneously ask them to recall.
ππOnce your puppy is doing this take it outside to a controlled environment, you may have to go back a few steps to start with the bigger distractions. REMEMBER keep your puppies safe use long lines if needed.

What is mantrailing?
Have a look at this overlay.
The trail layer (top left video and the person the dog is finding) on this trail set out 30 mins before the dog was presented at the start it was a gusty day.
The dog is taught to follow the scent trail of the specific person it's finding, that scent can move arround.
The handler is taught to read the dog to be an efficient team to get to their goal.
See how Harvey works in and out of the scent to pinpoint the way she went.
Do you want to join in the fun πππ

Tonight's session brought us 3 very different teams with 3 very different ways to get the most out of each dog.
We had hunter trails , switched our trails, moved our scent articles and more.......
Every dog is different and tweeking certain components can massively help WITHOUT the need of stepping in physically.
πΈ And just because pics were rubbish here's nyx taking sent from high up.

At canine cadence we don't fail we learn.
Huge shout to Beverley and Harvey who had a fantastic trail. He was so close to his trail layer at one point.
Harvey does prioritise air scenting and on a very cold morning that made it hard to pinpoint his trail layer. Working into her from all sides he just couldn't quite get into find her.
Beverley handled Harvey beautifully and even tho she had a max of 30 mins to find the trail layer actually called her trail at 15 because she knows her dog extreamly well and knows he can overheat when he works super hard.
We finished by bringing Harvey into his trail layers scent cone and boom he shot in like a rocket. And look at that slide into a sit. Note the trail layer had not been up where we were at all she came from the path.
When your extreamly happy to get to the start of your trail ...............
I love this guy πππ
A relatively inexperienced trailer but he's really coming along.
Can you see when he ventures off the trail? And what he does?
Can you see when he rediscovers the scent and which way ?
Can you see when he switches from scent to sight?
Well done lenny π
Want to take part in mantrailing but your dogs a little reserved/unsure of people or new things?
Look at lenny ππ
Lenny did his introduction a few weeks ago, his mum is hoping it will give him a confidence boost.
On his introduction he was with 3 other super keen dogs, but lenny was a little more hesitant choosing to stay close to mum and altho finding his person he wasn't brave enough to go into them without mums support and her taking the food to reward.
Last night lenny came to a new environment but doing the same routine and start realised he was playing the game.
Lenny decided that finding his person was fun (I love a bit of latent learning) and came out trailing infront of his mum and wagging his tail into his trail layer taking the food straight off.
Well done Lenny π
