Depending on their size and type of activities, some businesses will be more affected than others with Simpler Recycling ♻️

The requirement for workplaces from March 31st 2025 state that four containers will be required for collecting and recycling:
· residual (non-recyclable) waste
· food waste (mixed with garden waste if appropriate)
· paper and card
· all other dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal and glass)

These may be various container types, including bags, bins or stackable boxes.

By combining different container sizes and using flexible collections, Ward Recycling can help maximise space and reduce costs.

We can simplify collections into three containers in most workplaces, due to the processing on of the recyclables, which is helpful if you are restricted with space, offering options for:
· Residual (non-recyclable) waste
· Food waste (mixed with garden waste if appropriate)
· Dry mixed recycling (DMR) – paper and card and all other dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal and glass)

We have multiple options including bags, wheelie bins, Front End Loaders (FELs), Skips and Roll On/Offs providing solutions to meet all recycling requirements.

We can help you to:
· Set up waste separation systems
· Find the right containers: Good-quality bins and the correct sized containers to suit your space and requirements.
· Make sure you have clear bins and labelling for food waste, recyclables, and general waste

To increase your recycling rates, find out about your options to comply with Simpler Recycling regulation, contact our waste experts at [email protected], call on 0345 337 0000 or complete the form on our website: https://www.ward.com/simpler-recycling

Our Story

The company was established in the 1940s, specialising in the recycling of ferrous metals in Woodville near Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The ISO9001 quality accreditation was granted to the company in 1990 and during the following years the directors realised the potential to develop and grow Ward Recycling by responding to the waste management needs of modern business and industry. In 2002 the company expanded to it’s second location, a 10 acre site at Ilkeston in Derbyshire, representing a total investment of over £5m. February 2004 saw continued investment with the installation of the £1m Redox waste recycling plant at the Ilkeston site, further ensuring Ward Recycling’s full compliance with European Union waste management and recycling directives. 2010 saw Ward Recycling expand to a third site and continue to expand the metal and waste processing activities. In 2015, Ward Recycling purchased a site in Chesterfield, Derbyshire which further expanded the coverage over the UK offering metal recycling solutions for the North of the country. In 2017 we went onto invest close to £1 million in environmental improvements at our recycling facility in Chesterfield for employees and the local community.

Then in 2018 we opened our third Ilkeston site at a former leisure centre, following a £1million refurbishment. We invested in a complete renovation of the site to create new offices and communal areas for more than 60 staff and space for future expansion. We also signed a five year lease on our fourth site in Ilkeston. The 10,000 sq ft warehouse became a home to latest initiative from the business – WARDRobe, a new textile recycling service.

The same year, Ward opens a dedicated deep sea export dock facility at Associated British Ports (ABP) in Immingham to further expand our metal export business.

In 2019, we also triumped as winners of the Midlands & Central Family Business of the Year 2019, hot on the heels of double award wins at Midlands Family Business of the Year 2018, Business Masters Awards and the Derby Telegraph Business Awards 2019. Today Ward has an annual turnover in excess of £150m, employs over 400 people and operates a fleet of over 120 vehicles. The company is now managed by third and fourth generation family members who continue their commitment to developing waste management and recycling techniques, saving their customers money and helping them to meet and exceed their recycling targets.
