Here’s Nurse Sarah performing a blood smear. This allows us to have a closer look at the different cells within a tiny proportion of a blood sample! #VNAM2024 #whatVNsdo
Nurses clean, disinfect, pack and sterilise instruments. 🧽🫧
As well as knowing names for different instruments and their purpose ✂️
In our practice we have an autoclave which sterilises a range of instruments using steam of up to 132 degrees 🌡️
Take a look at the video below to see SVN Hannah pack a typical surgical kit.

Here’s RVN Sarah monitoring an anaesthetic 🩺
Veterinary nurses are able to monitor and seek advice from the veterinary surgeon on the patients condition to evaluate whether we need to change the anaesthetic dose or intervene.
Some of the vitals monitored are…
❤️ Heart Rate
🫁 Respiration Rate
🌡️Temperature
🩸Blood Pressure
👀 Patients reflexes
🌬️ ETCO2 (measures amount of carbon dioxide expired)
🩵Oxygen Saturation
🩷Capillary Refill time
Nurses learn how to monitor these, their normal parameters and note down on a form their findings. 😮💨
Did you know nurses do this?

❗️Trigger warning ❗️(may make you itch 🫣)
Here’s a video of a live flea under the microscope, although you can see them with the naked eye, it’s always fascinating to see them up close🔬
Did you know….
🐾 95% of fleas live in the environment in hibernation waiting for your pet to wake them up, a household spray for your home alongside regular flea prevention will keep on top of those pesky critters!
🐾 flea dirt is actually flea faeces, you will see little brown dots on your pets skin 💩
🐾 The most common flea is the cat flea, even in dogs 🐕
🐾 One of the most common worms are tapeworm, your pet can ingest these by grooming and eating flea, this is why regular worming treatment is so important
🐾 even indoor cats can suffer from these parasites as we can bring them in on our clothes.
🐕🐈We have a complete care plan which includes your yearly flea, tick and worm prevention.
Call the practice if you have any questions or queries 😊
Diabetes Awareness Month
It's Diabetes Awareness Month - do you know what to look for in your pet when looking out for Diabetes?
This little creepy crawly is one of many ear mites we found in a cats ear this weekend! Luckily with treatment they will all be gone shortly, but the thought of them has my ears tickling 😆
