🐍 ADDER BITES 🐍

🐍Adders are the only venomous snakes in the UK!
🐍They will often live in sand dunes, hillsides, moors and woodlands and are most likely to bite dogs between April and July in the late afternoon
🐍If you suspect an adder has bitten your dog, immediately check for two small puncture wounds, swelling, or redness in the area — these are common signs of an adder bite.
🐍It's important to keep your dog calm and as still as possible to slow the venom spreading through their body.

🥵HEATSTROKE 🥵

☀️ Heatstroke can affect cats, dogs and rabbits in hot weather. This is where their body temperature becomes so high it can be fatal
☀️ Elderly, young, obese and brachycephalic animals are especially at risk of heatstroke
☀️ Avoid exercising dogs in the hottest part of the day, never leave your dog in a hot car or sunroom, and rabbits enclosures should be kept out of direct sunlight

🦟FLEAS AND TICKS🦟

It is flea and tick season!

The only way to prevent fleas and ticks on your pet is to treat them regularly (between every 1-3 months depending on product) 🐶🐱

Bravecto treats fleas and ticks by killing them once they have latched onto your pet and begin feeding - so don't be alarmed if you still see ticks on your pet 😁

On the Pet Health Club, Bravecto is included in your monthly plan and only needs to be administered once every 3 months 🐾

🐶🌟 LAPAROSCOPIC SPAYS🌟🐶

Did you know we offer keyhole spays here at Inshes Vets⁉️

This is minimally invasive alternative to the traditional 'open' spays and can be done on dogs ranging from 5-50kg!

Here are our receptionist Lynsey's 2 cockers Maggie and Luna undergoing their spays and then during their recovery at home 🐶

As seen in the photos, there are 2 small wounds, where 2 ports are inserted, one with a camera to visualise the ovaries and one with an instrument to remove the ovaries 📷

The recovery time is much shorter for keyhole spays - often within 3 days, compared to 10 days for traditional spays, which means a less stressful time for you and your pet 🤕

Give us a call on 01463 711777 to speak to one of our team or alternatively email us on [email protected] if you would like to find out more information 🐾

OSCE's (objective structural examinations) are practical exams where 12 nursing tasks are carried out, with only 8 minutes to read and complete each task! There are also up to 50 tasks which the examiners can choose from 😅

Here is an idea of how the stations for each task are set up in OSCE's 🐾

HOW TO BECOME A VET NURSE? 💚🐾🩺
DID YOU KNOW INSHES VETS IS AN RCVS ACCREDITED TRAINING PRACTICE?

🌟 All veterinary nurse training is completed by attending a college or university that offers qualifications accredited by RCVS, where you will need to meet minimum entry requirements
🌟 Work experience is recommended and sometimes required before applying to college/university where you will shadow a Registered Veterinary Nurse
🌟 Completing a Veterinary Care Assistant course is a common entry route to Veterinary Nursing for those who may not have the entry requirements
🌟Level 3 Diploma: this is a 2-3 year course where you will attend college on block release. This involves lectures, practical teaching and on placement doing hands-on learning at a training practice
🌟BSc (Hons) or FdSc degree: this is a 3-4 year university course where you will have lectures and practical teaching, and usually will complete a placement year
🌟After completing your Veterinary Nursing qualification you will register with the RCVS to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse to be licensed to practice in the UK
