Highland Cats Country Retreat Cattery Our cattery is now permanently closed

Located a short drive from Inverness City centre we are quietly located in a country location on the edge of the Caledonian Canal. Our aim is to provide excellent boarding facilities for cats from across Inverness, the Highlands and beyond in a range of differently configured cat studios with good views, quality food, cosy beds and spacious heated accommodation.

Very sadly our lovely website has been taken down, ahead of our closure on 31 October. So no more online booking...but as we only have a few spaces available towards the end of the month, hopefully won't inconvenience many.

We understand that Copperfield Cattery and Old Farm Cattery are finding enquiries for boarding space for dates after October are increasing markedly and space is getting tighter, especially for school holidays.

It was our hope that by giving a year's notice that we were closing due to retirement on 31 October 2023, that someone would take up the challenge to create more boarding space but so far there has been no sign of that. So please, in the meantime, make sure you plan ahead in order to secure accommodation for your 2024 holiday dates.

Due to a late cancellation related to ill health, one apartment has now become available from Tuesday 18 July. Existing customers will be given priority :-)

Here at Highland Cats we are now entering our final 5 months, with our end date of 31 October 2023, on the summer holiday horizon. With this in mind we are prioritising our remaining boarding spaces, over the coming months, for the use of our existing customers and returning guests :-). So if you fancy a cheeky wee holiday before November, please don't hesitate to check out our remaining availability, as soon as you can :-).

The October holiday period is also filling up. And please remember that we will not be open for Christmas so early planning for space at other catteries is essential.

I am sad to say that my father has passed away, here at home, at the ripe old age of 99. Many of you may have met him over the years, since he remained remarkably fit and active, until recent times. The cattery will however continue on its normal rhythm as we open up again after our winter break and get ready for a busy Easter.

* Booking activity is particularly strong for dates middle of March; beginning and end of April ; 11-15 May; most of June; and first 2 weeks of July 2023

* Very limited availability, if any, left for 3 - 17 July.

*The waiting list is currently an option available only to existing customers

Happy 2023 to all. Hope this year brings everyone lots of fun.

This is our last year at the cattery (we close 31 October 2023) but though we are sad that the years have caught up with us we are really looking forward to welcoming back all our lovely guests for their holidays between 1 March and 31 October 2023 :-)

Our mobile phone number has now been restored after a technical fault outwith our control.

Problems continue with our mobile phone number for calls and messages. Please continue to revert to using email or landline. Hugely frustrated as we await the problem to be resolved which may be another 48 hours it seems. Apologies for the inconvenience in the meantime.

Regrettably, in line with most cattery and kennels in the UK, we have had to make the hard decision to add a small winter heating/ cost of living surcharge to our prices between 15 October 2022 and 15 April 2023. This will be limited to 0.89pence per day, per apartment. Unfortunately our costs are going to escalate as the colder weather returns - not least because each of our 13 spacious apartments have 3 cosy heaters (in addition to general heating) and are spread across 4 buildings. Not ideal in heating terms - though we, our guests and their humans do love this spaciousness :-)

In addition, as you may know, we have taken the hard decision to close the cattery between 16 November and 13 December 2022 this year. This traditional quiet time of year will be even harder in 2022 in terms of the balance between keeping our guests warm and cosy and potentially just wasting heat and money . We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the welfare of our guests will always be paramount.

However, the good news is that we will look forward to reopening on 14 December ready to enjoy welcoming back our guests for a busy, bright and cosy stay over the festive season (14 December to 12 January 2023).
