⚠️ Confirmed Case of Parvovirus in Our Area – Please Read ⚠️
As you may have heard, there is a confirmed case of canine parvovirus (parvo) in Forres. This highly contagious and potentially deadly virus primarily affects unvaccinated puppies and dogs, and it spreads quickly through direct contact or contaminated surfaces such as soil, shoes, and even human hands.
What is Parvo?
Parvovirus attacks the gastrointestinal system and can cause severe vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, and dehydration. In some cases, it can also affect the heart. Without prompt treatment, it can be fatal – especially in young or unvaccinated dogs.
The Good News - it’s preventable! 💙
Vaccination is the most effective way to protect your dog. Puppies should begin their vaccination course and receive boosters until they’re fully protected. Adult dogs also need regular boosters to maintain their immunity.
