Polite reminder on Microchipping

It is now law that all cats before they reach the age of 20 weeks must be microchipped, this includes indoor cats. Don't forget that your contact details must always be kept up to date on the database your chip is registered with, so you must contact them if you move address or change telephone numbers. If your cat was microchipped by us, then all you need to do is tell us of any changes and the National Veterinary Database will automatically be updated.

If your cat is not microchipped, please give us a call today to book your cat in! Microchipping is available at all 5 of our practices.

🐾We are pleased to announce that the three puppies found at Christmas by a lorry driver near Colchester have been nursed back to health and are thriving!

After being discovered, they were rushed to Moreton Hall Veterinary Centre for urgent care due to their poor condition. Following many hours of around-the-clock care, Ivy, Missy, and Lacy have all since found their forever homes. The pups recently had a joyful reunion at Ipswich Veterinary Centre, where they happily played together in the agility paddock.

🪰Does your dog or cat ever chase bugs? There may be occasions where they might get a sting. Most stings will simply cause your pet pain and irritation, but multiple stings can be dangerous.

🐝Dogs can be at risk because they tend to snap at bees and wasps, making it more likely for them to be stung in the mouth or throat. This can cause swelling and may block their airway.

🐶As with humans, some pets can be allergic to bee and wasp stings, so keep an eye out for signs of an allergic reaction.

‼️Call us straight away if your dog has been stung multiple times or has an allergic reaction.

🐶💦There aren't many dogs who don't like swimming in water and what an excellent alternative to walking in the summer heat.

🌅However, it is advised to avoid swimming and playing in water during a heatwave as it can be easy for dogs to over-exert themselves.

👇Take a look at the risks associated with swimming in seas and lakes and the signs to look out for with water intoxication.

♨️☀️ Heatstroke in dogs can be fatal so it’s important to act fast.

👀Signs of heatstroke include:
Heavy panting, difficulty breathing, excessive drooling, lethargy, drowsiness, being uncoordinated and unbalanced, vomiting and collapsing.

✅Tips for cooling a dog down:
- Move them to a cool area.
- Pour cool water over them, avoiding their head to prevent inhalation. Continue to pour water until the dog’s breathing has settled.
- Provide cool water for them to drink but don’t force water into their mouths.
- Phone us as soon as you can, even if you feel they have recovered. We’ll be happy to provide advice or book you an appointment for us to check them over.

From today all cats over 20 weeks must be microchipped apart from unowned or feral cats. The rule still applies for indoor cats also. Don't forget to keep your contact details up to date on your cat's microchip database should you move.
If your pet was microchipped with us and you move, we will ensure your details are kept up to date on the the National Veterinary Database.

In England from today (10 June), all pet cats which are over 20 weeks old must be microchipped.

Microchipping is a relatively pain-free procedure, in which a small chip is placed in a cat. The microchip has a short code which, when scanned, enables organisations to find the owner's contact details.
