Christchurch Veterinary Surgery

Christchurch Veterinary Surgery A friendly, well equipped practice offering excellent care for your pets. Christchurch Veterinary Surgery was opened in 2001, by Shane and Charlotte Morrison.
(32)

In 2011 we opened a new building at Tuddenham Road business centre, where our referral department (which deals with complex surgeries) was moved to. All of our vets are very experienced. We are an independent, family run business, who strive to deliver the best service for your pets, with a personal touch.

Our lovely nurse Emma brought her beautiful fox red labrador Watson in for a mass removal.

Emma's son Buddy insisted his best pal was accompanied by his favourite lion toy, and requested he be sent home with a blue bandage to match his bodysuit. 💙

After a long day, Watson enjoyed a nice snooze on the sofa with his feline brother Bert.

Can you tell Emma loves the reds? 🧡

❗️SEASONAL CANINE ILLNESS❗️

We had four rather poorly patients in with us last week who needed treatment for vomiting, diarrhea, and severe dehydration.

Martha and Dora (pictured below), along with their housemates Mabel and William, developed symptoms after walking in Rendlesham Forest where they also picked up lots of harvest mites!

Vet Tracy treated all four pooches for seasonal canine illness, known colloquially in Suffolk as Rendlesham Forest disease.

The exact cause of this autumnal disease is still little known; however, some theories suggest there is a correlation between the condition and the Neotrombicula autumnalis mite species found in these dense woodlands.

Symptoms can be severe and even life-threatening, so it is advised to wait until after first frost to walk in these areas.

Even though visible to the naked eye, Nurse Naomi couldn't resist taking a peek at the creepy crawlies under the microscope! 🪳

Our nurse Emma recently had the pleasure of seeing these two gorgeous boys for their weight checks.

Notice something special about Bowie's eyes? This striking phenomenon is called Heterochromia iridum which mostly occurs in white cats, though is relatively common among the feline species! 🐈

This gorgeous Tabby lady came to visit vet Louise last week for a check up, after her owner noticed her coughing after eating.

Beautiful Tiddles, who belongs to our wonderful head receptionist Bev, had also been displaying signs of lethargy.

Although her initial examination checked out OK, Tiddles gave us all a surprise when she sneezed out a grass blade through her nostril!

Thankfully she's now feeling much better! 😻

Why do we place intravenous catheters in our patients before surgery?

SAFETY! Having intravenous access allows us to give medication that works instantly. This is very important in case of emergency.

COMFORT! Having intravenous access reduces the amount of times we need to inject our patients and ensures their stay is more comfortable. We can provide most pain relief via the catheter which too, will work instantly.

FLUID THERAPY! Intravenous fluid therapy is given via an intravenous catheter. We are able to rehydrate hospital patients through the catheter which is instantly beneficial. Due to the catheter placement, a patient will often only need to be injected the one time, when the catheter is placed.

We prioritise patient safety and comfort above everything and place catheters in every patient where possible!

When Dobby was last seen she was a little anxious. Her most recent visit with our nurse Naomi was very positive- Dobby was a good girl and her confidence is improving.

Well done Dobby🤍

Honey found herself in a ‘sticky’ situation!🙈

Honey was seen for a consultation as she had started excessively sneezing. Our concerns this time of year are grass seeds- they tend to get stuck in ears, up noses and in between toes!

Bernardo used our endoscope whilst Honey was under General Anaesthetic, to examine the nasal cavity for any abnormalities. Whilst performing this examination, he found a stick in the right nostril! Luckily the damage to the nasal cavity was minimal😁

Honey is now back to full health🥰

6 month old pup Denzel came to in be castrated🐾

He was such a good boy- he let us place an IV catheter and take blood with no fuss❤️

Denzel had a pre-anaesthetic blood test to ensure all of his organs were working properly before his General Anaesthetic. His bloods were all normal and he recovered from his surgery wonderfully.

We love you Denzel🫶🏻

Meet Stuart👋🏻

A client brought Stuart in after her cat decided he looked like a fun housemate🙈

He was so young his little eyes were still closed. Our nurse Abby was amazed at how tiny he was and couldn’t wait to steal a cuddle (as far as you can cuddle a mouse)!

Ultimately, our wonderful nurse Naomi took Stuart home, kept him warm and fed him every two hours throughout the night. She then managed to find the perfect wildlife rescue centre to help him grow and thrive.

We wish you all the best, Stuart❤️🐭

This gorgeous Labrador Bella spent the day with us for her laparoscopic spay!

What are the benefits of a laparoscopic (keyhole) spay?👇🏻

🤍Minimally invasive
🤍Smaller wound size
🤍Quicker recovery time

Bernardo and nurse Emma had to sneak in some pre-surgery fuss. There’s just something wonderful about a Labrador!😍

Why do we suggest the castration of male dogs?

Swipe to find out👉🏻

Speak with a vet or nurse to determine the age in which we recommend castration, as this can vary depending on the breed/size of your dog!

Felix the St Bernard 2019 vs 2024😍

Felix was seen for his first visit with vet Tracy and nurse Emma back in 2019. He was first seen weighing 7.8kg…he now weighs over 70kg!🫣

Poor Felix does suffer from allergies and is seen every month by the nurses for his allergy injections. He often comes in with his tiny miniature dachshund companion called Amber😍

He has definitely become part of the family here at Christchurch Vets!🥰
