Cats and FeLv (Feline Leukaemia Virus) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (AIDS)
These two killer diseases are becoming more common. Felv is a vaccinatable disease, FIV is not. If you think it is OK to allow your cat to be mated then you could be killing it. We do not need anymore kittens in the world, every year thousands end up in rescue centres, many end up feral. It only takes one mating to pass on one of these killer diseases. If you are taking a kitten from an unreliable source, ie a back street mating, the kitten needs to be tested if the parents have not. Two cats phoned in from vets just this week with Feline Aids which we are unable to help. The more unneutered cats roaming the streets, the more prevalent these diseases become. If you cannot keep your kitten in until it is neutered and fully vaccinated - don't get one. This irresponsible behaviour puts ALL cats at risk.
