The secret’s out! The Dog Grocer will officially be opening its doors to the public this weekend (June 1st).

Our mission is to supply low waste, environmentally friendly and natural food, treats, toys and harnesses to the dogs of Heaton and beyond.

We’ve got some amazing stockists on board who follow our values and ethos and we can’t wait to share details of them on this page over the coming weeks. But in the meantime pop in store to browse what we have to offer and get some samples and find out more about how you can better support your dog and the environment through our range.

Our shop sign won’t be installed until next week, so look for 166 Heaton Road in the meantime (next to Siam Supreme).

Higgs is our first deaf dog at JF&H and he’s an absolute rockstar — it’s been a pleasure getting to know him and how he walks this world without any sound. We’re learning more about him week by week, working with his owners visual aids for recall and communication when out on our adventures. I’ve always admired Higgs from afar when driving round Heaton and I’m super stoked he’s now part of the gang!

That’s a wrap! Dogs walked, vans cleaned & we’re sitting on the JF&H stoop reflecting on all the hard work and achievements of 2023 with a team beer.

Huge thanks to every single one of you who gifted us beer, chocolates and more — at this rate we’re going to be set until next Christmas!

2023 has been a bit of a tough year all round for us at JF&H but as ever I’m so grateful to our incredible clients and community and for the amazing team I’ve got around me. 2024 holds some exciting new developments for us, so watch this space and we’ll see you all on the other side of the new year!

The event was organised in Newcastle to raise money for homelessness charity Street Paws.

We were so busy last week and completely forgot to mark Willa’s gotcha day! I’m not much one for dog birthdays (I know I know), however with everything this gal has gone through (and put us through) in the past 2 years I couldn’t not mark it somehow.

From the moment she was first brought into the at Cardiff this dog has had nothing but good luck and kindness from people across the country. From her first foster with , who saw a 6 month old deerhound X with three legs that had been abandoned by her owners and instead of putting her to sleep, took her into her home instead, to the amazing who first diagnosed the hip issues that would mean she would end the first year of her life requiring a total hip replacement and then supported us through her recovery (and a subsequent toe amputation), right through to the incredible rehab team of who got her walking again when we never thought it would happen and who helped her cope with a frightening re-entry to the world after a year of being housebound; the professionals in her life have been nothing short of fantastic.

To the beautiful and endlessly compassionate Jess Fox & Hound community, who not only donated in the thousands to the fundraiser that enabled us to get Willa’s hip replacement surgery in the first place, but who also kept our morale going in the early days when things didn’t look so good, thank you so much; you mean more to us than you could ever know. And to the many many strangers we never even met across the country who did the same, despite not knowing anything about us or Willa; thanks to all of you we can never look at Willa without being reminded of the incredible kindness of strangers.

And a final big shout out to the friends and family in our lives who got us through a frankly horrendous year of operations and uncertainty when we didn’t know what Willa’s future was going to look like (or if she even had one). Special mentions to Katie’s sister Daisy Markham who patiently answered all of our panicked late night WhatsApp’s and who has been an invaluable source of extra veterinary advice throughout and the Jess Fox and Hound team who put on fundraisers, covered shifts and were always present for extra Willa (and human) cuddles on demand during her recovery.

They say it takes a village to raise a child and the same has certainly applied to Willa. What a dog, what a 2 years, and what a life we’ve had with her so far!

The second annual Jess Fox and Hound Charity Christmas Jumper Dog Walk was an absolute hoot today! We’ve been thoroughly fed and watered by and , found our next dog top model through our cat walk, played endless games of musical sit and spent a whole lot of time wallowing in some festive mud together. And all in all have raised a bangin’ £225 for .

And all of this is down to you, the lovely Jess Fox & Hound community. Thanks for bringing your very best in festive dress (and your babies!), and to your hounds for being super stars all day. Extra special shout out to our prize winners Peach and and the worthy runner ups Fifi and Lana. And to 18 week old puppy Alma (featured in this photo) who did the whole walk without stopping to rest once.

And finally to my one in a million dog walking team, Jordie, Nathan, Ollie, Tom, Matt and Lee, and extended JF&H fam and . So happy to spend the final days of 2023 with you all and can’t wait to see what 2024 brings for us all!
