are? Cats and kittens come in to us for many reasons. They are abandoned - owners move away and leave them, some are thrown out because they are pregnant, unwanted kittens dumped in dustbins, cardboard boxes, thrown out of cars. Sometimes the owner has died, relationship break ups, allergies, new baby or owners who get kittens then after a few short months get bored with them. All cats and kittens coming into our care are placed in foster homes in and around the Keighley area, we currently have 9 foster homes. Cats and kittens coming into our care which are in need of immediate veterinary attention because of illness, injury etc. are taken straight to our vets - Aireworth Vets and given any necessary medication/treatment etc. All the cats are routinely treated for fleas and worms, fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered if old enough (5-6 months old). We also give new owners a leaflet from Pet Plan entitling them to four weeks free insurance. Pet Plan offer a discount for those continuing with the policy at the end of the four weeks. We are partnered with Pets at Home who provide us with a discount voucher for new owners to use in their stores. We ask for a donation towards the costs we have incurred and suggest a minimum of £75.00. To put this into perspective the following is an average cost for the above procedures if new owners took the cats to a veterinary practice themselves:

Vaccination Course £44.00
Female Neutering (Spay) £58.00
Male Neutering (Castration) £43.00
Microchipping £28.00
Flea & worm treatment £12.00

The cost for a female cat would be £142.00 and £127.00 for a male. Our donation is almost half this and does not take into account their feeding costs or any vet costs for illness, surgery etc. The shortfall on this and for all the other veterinary costs i.e. treatment for illness, injury etc. is made up by our fundraising efforts. The criteria for homing is that it must be a permanent, safe and loving home for the cat/kitten and we always do everything we can to make sure we "get the right cat in the right home". Some cats either due to age or temperament are not able to be homed so they stay with us. No animal is ever put to sleep except on a vet's recommendation.

This is Jonquil. She is around 12 weeks old.

Jonquil had a rough start in life. She came to us in a very sad state after being found on the streets with her 2 siblings and no mama at around 4 weeks old. They initially spent a week in the vets.

Soon after coming into foster, they were diagnosed with ringworm. Ringworm is not life-threatening and does not have any long-term effects on kittens. It is a fungal skin infection similar to athletes foot. It doesn't make them ill but it is frustrating for rescues and fosterers as it means they have to be isolated for six weeks while they under go treatment as it is contagious.She has completed her treatment now and is ready for her furever home.

Jonquil is initially timid round new people but soon comes round. She is the kitteniest kitten you could ever wish to meet. A bundle of playfulness,happy and curious but loves a snuggle and is always purring. She really is the most adorable little lady. 😍

Betsy is a 4 year old British Shorthair. She is nervous, but friendly once she feels comfortable. Her favourite activities are being groomed, eating (she is not a fussy eater!) and playing with ribbons and toys on strings - she plays a little rough, watch out for her claws! She needs to be the only cat, and to find an owner with the patience to help her feel happy and settled after an anxious couple of years. She’s an indoor cat that has occasionally gone into the garden, both with a lead and without. She’s very independent and isn’t a lap cat, but will greet you when you enter the room and expect a stroke. She was my mum’s cat, who passed away in January 2023, having to rehome her due to my other cat bullying her.
