The Scottish Government has confirmed that farmers in Scotland can legally use Numnuts for castrating or tail docking lambs up to 12 weeks old, provided an anaesthetic is administered.

Numnuts® is a 2-in-1 device that administers an Elastrator® ring along with a pre-calibrated dose of local anaesthetic. This device makes giving fast-acting targeted pain relief for castration and tail docking of lambs easy, fast, and safe. No other device exists that allows farmers and vets to provide targeted pain relief to lambs during tail docking and castration.

Congratulations to Hector Low who won our MerlinVet Carounn Gin at the recent Highlands & Islands Veterinary Services Scheme Conference in Inverness!

One of the talking points of the Conference was the legislation of lamb tail docking and castration with The Scottish Government confirming that farmers in Scotland can legally use Numnuts for castrating or tail docking lambs up to 12 weeks old, provided an anaesthetic is administered. From midday today, in response to the number of detections of Avian Influenza in kept and wild birds, gatherings of poultry, galliforme or anseriforme birds are banned in England, Scotland and Wales. This includes ducks, geese, swans, pheasants, partridge, quail, chickens, turkeys and guinea fowl.

One of Merlin's directors and resident bull fertility expert, Robert, has been in Stirling this week semen testing some Charolais and Simmental bulls in advance of the pedigree bull sales. Here he is with the Pulsator V bull ejaculator.

You may have also noticed that Robert is sporting the Doddie Weir South Buff, which is fitting as this week, Doddie's Grand Tour sees 19 teams of cyclists take on the Scottish route finishing in Edinburgh today ahead of tomorrow's Scotland Ireland match at Murrayfield, covering 700 miles in 4 days to raise funds for MND.
