Some cats who arrive in our care are completely broken and damaged by the life they have endured and, back in 2023, the odds of poor Buster finding his forever home did seem stacked against him...
An entire male, known to have been straying for several years, he had sustained a nasty wound from yet another fight and, when treated, was found to be FIV+. He was also completely terrified of people and hid away constantly.
Some may have written him off, yet we never give up on any cat, and some wonderful, kind-hearted, cat-loving people were so moved by his plight, they came forward to offer him his forever home.
"When we first adopted Buster [two years ago] he was visibly shaking, terrified of everyone and everything, he had clearly lived in the wild his whole life without knowing human interaction.
The first day when we brought him home he stayed in his carrier for two hours, even when we left the room, before he felt confident enough to venture out. On his second full day with us he was hiding on top of the kitchen cabinet and would come down only for food - this continued for a few weeks.
He slowly started trusting us and it's been a very gradual process where we've given him as much time, love and patience as possible. We love him so much and are so proud of how far he has come. He has the sweetest soul.
In January he was making biscuits for the first time in our house, and a couple of months ago we were able to stroke him for the very first time, which he has loved receiving on a daily basis ever since. Last week we also managed to pick him up, put him into his carrier and take him to the vets with no problems at all!
We thought we'd send this to let other people know that they should take a chance on a shy rescue cat like Buster. Despite the fact we were only able to stroke him recently, he is so appreciative of being in a loving home. He comes and sits with us every night for a few hours, he makes biscuits and purrs simply when we enter the room, and when we're away he misses us and sits on our bed all day (from what we see on our home security cameras). He genuinely is such a good boy and the best cat in the world."
We'd like to thank Buster's humans from the bottom of our hearts for seeing past the angry looking, raggy-eared and battered tomcat ...people like you make our hearts soar (not to mention our jobs so worthwhile!).
Happy
