Last week Oonagh Meyer and Sarah Dale from the Approved Centre Team, headed up to the North West for Centre visits and to join Aaron from Just Horse Riders for a very exciting podcast! 🥳

They talked all things BHS from welfare to education and of course all about our Approved Centres 🤩

They highlighted the issues faced by Centres, the licensing and inspection process, the issue of unlicensed riding schools, where to find your nearest centre, the Second Chance project, what makes BHS Approved Centres stand out and much more!

Looking for guinea pigs!

The BHS is holding a training day all about bits and bitting, and we’re looking for guinea pigs with bitting issues. To take part, you and your horse need to be available for the afternoon of 7 October, at Shardeloes Farm in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

We’re looking for horses with the following sorts of problems:
- Contact issues - horse is avoidant of the bit, comes above or behind the bit
- Mouth evasions - mouth open, tongue sucking back or poking out
- Resistant to bit pressure - backing off from the bit, doesn't feel soft and willing
- New to doubles and needs a set fitting properly or is currently in doubles but the current set isn't quite right
- Struggling with brakes or control for jumping/fast work

Horses should have had their teeth checked recently, their saddle fit checked, and have no ongoing lameness or veterinary issues affecting their way of going. They should also be up to date with any bodywork – physio, chiro, osteo etc. You’ll have an individual session with BETA-recommended bitting expert Olivia Turner. We are asking guinea pigs to pay just £20 - a fraction of the price of a regular consultation in light of the fact that your session will be observed by the delegates on the training day.

Wonderful news from one of our approved centres in Salisbury, congratulations SMS Equestrian 🥳

With thanks to our wonderful Saturday team we've only gone and done it 💪💪💪

SMS have received a very generous grant from to build a classroom!
We are so overwhelmed by this generosity and cannot believe we were chosen.

This new addition will provide so many opportunities for off the horse learning and under cover viewing and we cannot wait!

Congratulations to our 500th member on the Isle of Wight - welcome to the gang, Christina (and her mum, Julie, our 501st member!). Our island Chairperson, Andrea Durham, was able to go and meet them recently and present them each with a BHS polo shirt to mark the occasion. Christina enjoys dressage with the gorgeous Max, who posed beautifully for his photo 🐴🥰

👉Stage 2 Care Online Theory Course

An online course looking at the theory elements of the BHS Stage 2 Care syllabus. Delivered by Carole Broad FBHS, Senior Assessor. This course will comprise of 4 sessions, the first session will be on Monday 9th September 6:30-8:30, with the following sessions at the same times on Monday 16th September, Monday 30th September and Monday 7th October. The sessions will cover feeding and fitness, responsibilities for a groom and horse behaviour, care of grassland and care of a horses' feet.

Last weekend we were honoured to be able to put on a Regional Volunteers' Thank You Day in the New Forest🏇

This amazing day was jam-packed with Presentations, Awards, guided tours around the new forest and even getting to see some of the ponies with their foals at foot. Not only was the day hugely educational and informative, it was great to see everyone laughing and having a good time!

Our community wouldn't run without the help of all our amazing volunteers and the huge amount of work they put in❤️.
