🐾 Don’t Wait—Neuter Early & Shop Around for Appointments 🐾

Some vet practices still advise waiting until 6 months or more before neutering cats. But cats can become pregnant as early as 4 months, and males may start spraying or roaming by then. Delaying neutering increases the risk of unplanned litters and unwanted behaviours.

✅ What You Can Do:

Neuter from 4 months: This is the recommendation from Cats Protection and the RSPCA.

No appointments soon? Ring around: If your vet has a long wait, call others nearby. Many clinics and charities offer quicker slots and may be more affordable.

Microchip at the same time: Since June 2024, it's a legal requirement in England to microchip cats by 20 weeks of age. Not complying could result in a £500 fine .

📍 Low-Cost Neutering & Microchipping in Kent:

RSPCA Canterbury & District: Neutering for cats and rabbits at £15 for those on low incomes. Microchipping also available. Call 01227 719113.

Cats Protection Medway Towns: Offers neutering support and advice on cat ownership. https://www.cats.org.uk/medway

Lord Whisky Animal Sanctuary (Canterbury area): Provides discounted treatments and low-cost neutering for cats and dogs for those on certain benefits. https://www.lordwhisky.co.uk/vets

Warren House Vets (Multiple Kent locations): Offers neutering and microchipping services, with a 10% discount on neutering for members of their Pet Health for Life plan. https://www.warrenhousevets.co.uk/about-us/procedures-pricing

Clover Street Vets (Chatham): Cat spay £60, castration £50, both include pain relief. https://www.cloverstreetvets.co.uk/pricing.html

Sandhole Vets (Snodland): Offers cat microchipping services.

💡 Why It Matters:

Early neutering prevents unwanted litters and reduces the number of cats needing rescue.

It helps prevent spraying, roaming, and certain cancers and diseases being spread amongst cats.

Microchipping ensures your cat can be returned to you if lost.

Let’s keep our cats healthy and reduce the number of unwanted kittens needing rescue spaces.

A Kent-based animal charity which came up with the idea behind new cat microchipping laws say it will make a huge difference to pet owners.

09/06/2024

New cat microchipping law starts tomorrow 10/6/2024. We are so grateful to have been able to start this law with our local mp Rehman Chishti 🫶 we know it's hard to govern and there will still be those that don't do it. However, it will help as much as it's helped the dogs when the law was passed about microchipping them. We have seen a dramatic fall in dogs that aren't chipped, so more get home ❤️

Thank you all for supporting the work we do!

Animals Lost and Found in Kent Ltd

Reuniting animals across Kent, UK. We help reunite lost dogs, lost cats and lost animals across Kent. We are a not for profit animal welfare organisation based in Gillingham. The two founders of Animals Lost and Found in Kent are Natasha McPhee and Dee Potter.

If you have lost your dog or found a lost dog, cat or animal in the Kent area we can help. Unlike some lost dog and lost cat websites we do not charge for any of our services. Every penny that is donated goes straight back into rescuing the animals. This Organisation was started by a couple who saw the need to provide no cost resources to the owners of lost animals in Kent to increase the chances of locating and being successfully reunited with their pet whether the animal is deceased or alive. Every animal whether deceased or alive is treated with respect no matter what condition they are in.
