Megs had the pleasure of meeting little Billy this morning for a 1-2-1 training session. Billy’s owner has had many Westie’s previously but can’t recall one ever being so challenging as a pup! Billy is a very bright, confident pup that requires clear instruction and boundaries from the offset. Billy was eager to learn and was suitably tired when Megs left. We cannot wait to hear how he gets on!

“Salty was 3 on the 13th of April, 2024. He is a really lovely dog but sadly is not suitable for our busy young family. We feel he needs the understanding and stimulation of a collie/dog expert. We try our best but he is high maintenance and can be anxious and aggressive towards men. Ideally, he would suit an experienced woman who can give him one to one attention. He is overstimulated by cyclists, joggers and cars but we feel with the right attention and training that this can be resolved. Unfortunately, we don't have the resources or time to do this...
Pippa has given us very helpful advice and is kindly posting this for us.

“I am thrilled to be part of the Best Behaviour team! Having rescued and looked after countless dogs over the years as well as volunteering to walk dogs at my local rescue centre. I am so excited to utilise my knowledge and passion managing the Tonbridge branch with Sam.

I have previously worked in the animal industry for an aquarium and pond company. Here my main responsibilities were to manage schedules, order materials and liase with the team wherever I could to ensure things run smoothly.

I love working with dogs and currently have two of my own, so I take great satisfaction in returning your dogs to you happy and tired!”

Dog Space Etiquette 101: 🐾

Dogs need personal space too! Show respect to our furry friends and their owners by following these tips:

➡️ Keep your off-leash dog from approaching on-leash dogs
➡️ Lock retractable leashes around other dogs
➡️ Ask before approaching or petting other dogs
➡️ Extend compassion to owners of shy/reactive dogs.

The ban on XL Bully type dogs comes into effect on 1 February 2024.

Owners wanting to keep their XL Bully should register their dog by applying for a Certificate of Exemption before then.

To get this, owners must hold public liability insurance for their dog and pay an application fee. It must be microchipped and neutered by certain dates.

After 31 December 2023, it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon or allow an XL Bully to stray. These dogs will also need to be on a lead and muzzled in public.

Owners who no longer wish to keep their XL Bully type dogs can arrange for a vet to euthanise them and apply for compensation towards this.

You do not need to take these steps if your dog is clearly identifiable as another breed, even if it meets some of the criteria of an XL Bully.
