Today is , and we’d like to say a huge thank you to our generous customers who donated to the Pets Foundation Blue Cross UK summer appeal to help feed local pets in need - by buying a pet food parcel you have helped feed more than 79,000 pets.

During the Pets Foundation summer appeal, customers could purchase a pre-packed pet food parcel or donate online in aid of the Blue Cross food bank project. The food parcels were donated to local partnered food banks, who distributed the food to pet owners most in need in their local communities. Thanks to your kindness, we were able to donate 60,000 pet food parcels and raise a staggering £475,300.

Charlie from The Welcome Centre. Food Bank and More, one of the charities supported by the appeal, spent some time in Pets at Home Huddersfield Waterloo to help raise awareness of the appeal. She said: “Over the summer, here at The Welcome Centre Food Bank, we were able to provide 183 pet food packs, and we couldn’t have done this without the very generous donations we received through the Blue Cross in partnership with Pets at Home. Thank you to everyone who has supported us. No one should ever have to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome their pets due to financial constraints, but sadly, this is becoming a reality for many families. Every donation makes a significant impact, and if you are able to continue to donate pet food, we would be incredibly grateful, as it will allow us to continue helping pet owners in crisis.”

No pet should have to go hungry. And No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or feeding their pets. ❤

Like Vincent and his dog, Tika, our pet food banks are here to keep people and their beloved pets together.

Throughout August, fundraising events will be held at every Pets UK store across the country, where people can buy food parcels or make a donation to help more pets through the pet food bank project. Find out more 👉 https://bit.ly/3CR0Jw0

Could you spot a poisonous plant before your furry friend? 🌷

As lovely as the spring blooms look as they start to take over the gardens, it’s important to remember that curious pets may mistake them for a sweet-scented snack. It’s best to keep them well away from prying paws as certain types can be very poisonous 😥

As Eastertime is here, for many of us this means eating lots of tasty chocolate 🍫

But did you know that chocolate is poisonous to dogs?

Chocolate contains a chemical called theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. The darker the chocolate, the more poisonous it is.

If you think your dog has eaten any chocolate, contact your vet immediately.

With Easter just around the corner, please remember that chocolate is toxic to dogs 🐶❌🍫 Keep your Easter eggs stashed away from your four-legged friends 💛

[Image description: This is an infographic that reads: Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Never give your dog chocolate as a treat. Make sure children and visitors know this too. Never leave chocolate unsupervised on tables or kitchen surfaces. Make sure bins are dog-proof. If you think your dog has eaten chocolate, seek veterinary advice immediately. Symptoms of chocolate poisoning include: vomitting, diarrhoea, excitability, excessive thirst, drooling, changes in heart rate, seizures.]
