‼️UPDATE - Toji is now settling into his emergency foster home. Thank you for sharing ❤️ He will continue his search for his FOREVER home.

TOJI’S STORY AND THE REASON WHY HE DESPERATELY NEEDS A HOME 💔

Please keep sharing 🙏

Toji (now Ted) is an almost one year old collie x. An adolescent working breed is unlikely ever to be a calm couch potato, and after two homes and a spell in kennels, it’s no surprise Toji has been feeling a little unsettled.

On assessment Toji presented very well with no behavioural issues to note. Ill health in his original family led to him needing to be rehomed.

We knew Toji would likely struggle in a kennel, collies often do. But sadly, Toji’s level of stress in his kennel was extreme. Panicked and terrified of returning to his kennel after his walks, one day it took staff two hours to try and gently persuade Toji back inside. Such was his level of distress, the decision was taken to temporarily move him into the staff room. Unfortunately, this isn’t a long term solution for any animal.

Toji has been in a home for a few weeks now, we desperately hoped it would work out for him but sadly a sudden change in circumstances for his new family means they are unable to keep him.

His current home describes him as good in the house, settling after his walks, sleeps soundly through the night and when staff visited recently, they observed him to be friendly when they arrived, happy to play, eager to please and quick to learn. On walks he shows a little anxiety but frequently checks in and can disengage from any triggers. He has taken well to and responds to his new name, Ted.

We think you will agree it is just not fair for Toji to return to kennels. Toji desperately needs the stability of a committed forever home or experienced fosterer where he can regain his confidence and he can become the awesome and perfect collie mix of brains, fun, playfulness and energy!

In a breed-savvy home we know he will excel, he would no doubt love to participate in sports like hoopers, agility or scent work etc. Toji has previously shown excellent dog social skills and body language so despite some recent dog reactivity, he may be suited to live with another dog pending suitable introductions.

Thank you to everyone that has shared Toji/Ted’s profile so far. We urge you to continue to do so, we know his perfect family are out there. Your share could help him find them.

Adder bites are most common from June to August; would you know what to do if your pet ever encountered one? 🐍

Although rare, it's a good idea to get clued up on what to do if your pet is ever bitten by a snake - especially adders, the UK's only venomous snake species. Usually, adders aren't a threat, but they might defend themselves if a curious pooch gets too close.

If your pet gets bitten by an adder, you must treat it as an emergency by following the first aid advice below and contacting your vet immediately. Cats can also suffer from adder bites (although it's less common), and the same first aid should apply.

You can reduce the chance of encountering adders by avoiding areas known for them; staying out of long grass, woodland, moorland, and along the coast (sand dunes/coastal paths); and researching any unfamiliar areas for adder 'hot-spots' before walking your dog 🐕

[Visual description: An infographic showing photos of an adder and its markings. Alongside this is the following text: Adder bites in dogs. If your dog has been bitten by an adder, their symptoms will depend on where the bite is and where the venom spreads to. If the venom stays in the tissues around the bite, it will cause pain and swelling, but if it spreads further and gets into the bloodstream, it can cause much more serious problems, such as damage to the liver, kidneys, and nervous system. First aid for a snake bite. 1. If you see the snake, try to remember what it looks like or take a photo from a distance. Do not try to find the snake, get close to it, touch it, or harm it. Adders are a protected species, so it's illegal to hurt or kill them, and they can bite people if disturbed. 2. Keep your dog as still as possible to prevent the venom from spreading around their body. 3. Leave the bite alone, don't apply a bandage or tourniquet. 4. Call your vet to let them know you are coming down to the practice. 5. If possible, bring a car to your dog or, depending on their weight, carry them to it. Snake bites are an emergency - if your dog has been bitten, follow our first aid advice and take them to a vet ASAP.]

☀️ 𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 ☀️

Just a quick heads-up for the week ahead: I’ll be keeping a close eye on the temperatures, and if it gets too hot, I may need to rearrange some appointments for the safety of your dogs.

Once it hits around 25°C or above, the risk of heatstroke goes up - especially for pups with flatter faces, thick coats, or a bit of extra age or bounce in their step.
