Our weighing scales were certainly very popular with these two kitty cuties last week! 😻😹
5 month old ragdoll ‘Luna’ & 5 year old bengal ‘Jango’ were keen to show off their lovely lean body condition at their check-ups with RVN Jo & Vet Sarah.
Did you know that we consider more than just the number on the scale when we determine your pets ideal weight? Using body shape & appearance from several angles, & our ability to feel several boney landmarks, we use a 9 point Body Condition scale with 4 or 5 being ideal.

⚠️ Do you know the warning signs of Lungworm? ⚠️
Lungworm is a risk to your dog all year round, but especially when it's been rainy and the slugs and snails are more prominent! 🐌

Dogs can get infected by this parasitic worm by eating these insects or licking their slime trails. It might be what your dog deems a tasty treat, but it can be extremely dangerous and even become a chronic infection lasting many years.

If you suspect your dog has lungworm or is showing symptoms, call your vet immediately.

Vet Kristine got to share one of the best bits of our job when she had vet student Lizzie assist her in vaccinating & microchipping this stunning litter of six 8 week old Labrador pups yesterday 🐶 😍
In addition to their 5 or 6 years of studies, veterinary students at the eleven UK vet schools all have to compete many weeks of extra mural studies (EMS) also known as ‘seeing practice’, alongside clinicians at working practices so they can observe & practise their hands on skills. It is always a pleasure to mentor the future of our profession & to see them learn & develop whilst they are with us 😊

🐱 Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. It is a common and very well known disorder in people but did you know that our older pet cats can be hypertensive too? 🐱
Most healthy cats will have a normal
blood pressure between 80 and 150 mmHg. A cat is considered to be hypertensive if their blood pressure is persistently above 160 mmHg.
Like in many people, there are often no, or only vague, initial outward signs which can include sleeping more or being less active and this means hypertension may stay undiagnosed
for a long period of time & so the disease is often termed a ‘silent killer’ ‼️
Our lovely RVN’s are currently offering reduced price consultations for Blood Pressure checks in any otherwise healthy cat over 7 years old - please give us a ring to book your cat in for this valuable check up ☎️ 🐈‍⬛

Beautiful ‘Billy’, a 5 year old spaniel, visited Vet Jo recently with a nasty ear infection, properly called Otitis Externa. Billy’s ears were painful & itchy, causing him to scratch them & repeatedly shake his head, & on scoping they were inflamed with patches of ulceration & filled with a greyish brown discharge.
Vet Jo took swabs for examination under the microscope (cytology) & submission to the laboratory (culture) & found that the main cells seen & grown were the yeast malassezia allowing for the most appropriate treatment to be selected. Billy’s ears are now feeling & looking a lot better! 😊❤️‍🩹 This ‘test & treat’ approach allows us to preserve antibiotics for known bacterial infection & is part of responsible antibiotic usage
