Some good advice from another fellow groomer. Brushing and coat maintenance is so important. And I second that that we hate taking dogs short because of Matting when we know you want fluffy but sometimes we have no choice and it’s always in the best interest of your dogs. 🐶🫶🏻

I saw this on another groomers page and thought it informative for owners.
Obviously coats vary a lot so they are guidelines only.
Google “LINE BRUSHING” to watch videos on the most effective way to brush your longer haired dog, ensuring you brush right down to the skin and not just over the top of any matting hiding at skin level. Regular brushing at home is essential if you want to keep any coat length with your chosen style at the groomers, we never enjoy having to shave a matted dog down. A clip off groom is much harder for us and there’s a much higher risk of nicks or cuts and much less enjoyable for the dog who has to put up with the skin being moved around with the matts already tugging on the skin.
My best advice is be realistic with the time you can spare to brush your dog, if your busy have a shorter style or more frequent grooms.
Brushing can be a great bonding activity for you both, also helps distribute oils, removes dead hair helping the dog regulate it’s body temperature, it’s a good time to check over the body for any new lumps & bumps & parasites and stimulates circulation.
