Maintenance massage for my sponsored horse Diva 😍 Diva struggles to relax and is always on high alert.
After some great gymnastics in the field we worked through tension in her thoracic sling and gluteals. Diva also carries a lot of tension in her poll and TMJ.

If you would like to book your horses in before the season starts then drop me a message.

Is it time for a massage???

Does something feel off with your horse but you can’t put your finger on what it is?
Your vet has checked and finds nothing wrong?

Here are some examples of when a massage is required:
Is your horse disruptive? Is this behaviour new for your horse?
Signs include;
⭐️head tossing
⭐️struggling to change or keep canter leads
⭐️bucking/rearing
⭐️evading the bit
⭐️won’t stand still to be mounted
⭐️biting when saddling/girthing up

Does your horse have low energy?
If a general health check and feed check has been ruled out and your horse feels flat when being ridden, or is unusually fatigued then a massage could help to perk your horse back up. Massage stimulates circulation and energises the horse.

Imbalanced?
Does your horse prefer one rein to the other?
A massage can help to rebalance your horse, by eliminating one sided stiffness and increasing flexibility and suppleness.

Agitated and defensive?
Has your horse suddenly started biting, pinning back ears, making faces?
Massage releases endorphins as well as pin pointing areas of stress and tension, endorphins are chemicals the horse releases to relive pain and increase mood.

Chronic health problems?
Does your horse suffer pain, decreased mobility or imbalance? A regular massage is important for pain relief with chronic health problems such as arthritis and navicular.

Post illness or surgery?
After vets approval massage can help to aid recovery, massage stimulates the circulatory system and helps to speed cells to aid healing. Massage reduces pain, stiffness and inflammation. Massage helps to maintain muscle tone which is important for horses on box rest and also helps the horse to relax.

Ridden work
Regular massage maintenance is important for all horses no matter what there discipline.
Massage helps to work out muscle spasms and improves range of motion. Release stress and trigger points. Massage helps with the removal of lactic acids from the muscle tissue.

I treat a range of horses from pleasure horses to Grand Prix.
Every horse will benefit from a massage.

This is such a sad statistic and very worrying for the future of farriers.

This is such a sad statistic and very worrying for the future of farriers.

Not our post and credit does not belong to us for these words, but a concerning read nonetheless. This is exactly why we value and want to recognise farriers and champion their trade, service, knowledge and skills.

Seeing lots of posts “looking for farrier”...

Do you know why so many are looking for a farrier??

There are now fewer farriers in the UK than the last 20 years.

1 in 3 farriers are over 50 years old. (Edited due to revised figures) (so within 10 years we might loose 1/3rd if farriers simply due to slowing/retiring

No one is wanting to train as a farrier.

There was 4 farrier colleges.
Now 1 has closed and 1 didn’t have enough interest to take an enrolment this year.

That’s 2 colleges with less than 8 in a class. And it takes 4 years to train…

Farriery prices will rise dramatically in the following 5 years.
Parts of Europe already pay €300 a set regularly.

Supply and demand unfortunately.

♥️ your farrier, respect, support, and be the best client you can be

To become an apprentice :

You need GCSE’s A-C including English and Math.

It’s also very expensive to train apprentices now.

So a 21 year old apprentice (3rd & 4th year) can take home £24K in wages, costs about £5k in extra insurance, PPE, tools, etc.

So that’s £29k a year out of the bosses pocket. Actually resulting in the training farrier (who needs to sit more exams to take on an apprentice, taken at his own costs of ~£5k) taking home less money than the apprentice.

So… training farriers take on more work…. To cover costs, end up in the VAT.. charge more… loose work.

Apprentice goes to college as a resident for 4 weeks twice a year… boss is then left alone to shoe double the amount of horses as his help is away…

Result is… apprentices are not worth the effort or money.

Resulting in even fewer farriers coming forward.

It’s believed wales has only 1 training farrier now.

Scotland is believed to have only 8 apprentices.
