🐈‍⬛ Meet Kitty on the right… the bravest girl ever! Kitty was sadly attacked by a dog and was left with life threatening injuries😢 Kitty received intensive round the clock treatment from our dedicated vets and nurses and miraculously made a full recovery! Did you know...we have to make a LOT of dogs vomit up things they shouldnt have eaten around christmas time!! 🙈🥴
The main culprits are chocolate (stashed gifts before they've been given away or wrapped up boxes of chocolates from under the tree) and raisin containing foods like christmas cake and mince pies! Both of which are poisonous to dogs.

Other foods to avoid if possible include
- fruit left over from mulled wine
- onions
- cooked turkey bones
- macademia nuts
- blue cheese
- generous quantities of any rich/fatty foods
- Artificial sweetners

If you think your dog has had access to any of these foods, there's a lot we can do to limit potential intoxication, especially if we treated quickly after exposure/ingestion. And we're available 24-7...so you know who to call!

03/12/2024

💊 💊 In a bid to champion environmental sustainability, we are encouraging clients to return any unused antibiotics/left over/expired vet prescriptions to the practice for safe disposal to help tackle the growing issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) 💊 💊 💊

Antibiotics are essential when treating many conditions in animals and people, but bacteria are becoming resistant to many antibiotics that we use in human and veterinary medicine. Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria develop defences that protect them from antibiotic medications, making treatment less effective. Using antibiotics when not needed increases the risk of antibiotic resistance and can lead to side effects or delay an accurate diagnosis. Unsafe disposal of unused or leftover antibiotics can also contribute to antibiotic resistance, as well as pollute the environment and affect wildlife.

Antibiotic resistance is a global health issue, and we need your help to keep antibiotics working.

We have a box in reception for you to drop off any unused medications – this could be extra from a recent prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t need or out-of-date medication. We never charge for unused medications that need disposing of if they have been prescribed by ourselves.

Thank you for your support

👋Say Hello to Marley! 👋

Marley was super brave when she was in with us to be spayed! All here at Shepherds Vets fell in love with Marley, she received lots of fuss and reassurance throughout the day and left here smiling - as you can see in the photo!

There are many advantages for dogs to be spayed, those advantages include:
⭐️Prevention of pyometra which can be a life threatening infection of the womb.
⭐️Prevention of mammary cancer.
⭐️Elimination of hormone fluctuations that may cause false pregnancy.
⭐️Elimination of unwanted behaviours whilst in heat such as the urge to escape in order to find a mate.
If you would like to know any further information about having your pet neutered, please ask one of the members of our friendly team!

We hope to see Marley for more cuddles soon!
