The competition season is now in full swing, here are some of our top tips to help your horse recover, replenish, and rehydrate post-exercise.

We would not recommend any sudden changes to your horse’s daily feed when wanting to aid rehydration post-exercise, as this can disturb the bacteria in your horse’s gut. Our top tip is to pack some of your horse’s Allen & Page feed into your lorry or trailer, which can then be soaked to aid rehydration.

💧 Make sure to keep your horse moving, this helps to bring down heart rate and helps their muscles to ease post-galloping
💧 Do not offer your horse their bucket feed until their breathing and heart rate are back down to a usual rate
💧 Pack some of your Allen & Page feed into a tub, post-exercise, put this with water, and let your horse enjoy a sloppy mash
💧 Add in some additional electrolytes to assist with the rapid replacement of ion salts lost through sweating during exercise
