This is just the Southern coast of Arran,there is so much to see and do from finding The Library in the Woods,to the dinosaur 🦕 footprint and visiting an ancient Neolithic burial cairn. There’s,seals,sea otters camping,glamping,waterfalls and octopus 🐙. Can’t wait to visit each one of these places 🥰

Could not resist doing an illustration featuring the lovely Suki’s quirky budgie 🦜 hair prop and one of the best events I attended during 2024. The Under the Surface exhibition at Studio 44 in Largs. Where my niece Kelsey Todd exhibited paintings along with other super talented artists and crafters.

The story of my octopus🤓 A lovely lady who received my Largs jigsaw as a Christmas gift asked if there was a story behind the octopus at Largs ferry port. The Seahorse Bookstore in Ardrossan was the very first shop to ever sell my illustrations ,after I painted an octopus climbing over their roof to read and raid their books.A year later when I joined Kelsey Todd for a Largs exhibition I had no idea what to paint so I took my octopus and plopped him on the ferry terminal for a trip to Millport.Then causing havoc in Largs pet shop,dressing up with Magnus and the little Viking outside Droothy Neebors,scuttling by Kirsty and Phil who were filming Love it or List it in Largs,going by Nardini’s (only time I tried blue 🤨)then returning to Ardrossan for Christmas. Would love to do a story about his adventures 😄

I’ve become a regular at the Costa in Largs,over last year,and I’m so glad I did! Amongst many others,I got to meet the lovely Tommy(the clown) Armstrong,from Greenock,who now well into his 80’s,still runs in charity fund raising events. I saw Toad and Bowser 👀from Mario just walking by the window😅and I met the lovely Lynn when I asked if I could photograph her gorgeous dog Luca. You may have seen both of them in my illustration of Largs on tea towels and Jigsaws.

Team Coppernut by the Sea. This was one of my favourite days of the year. Not only was it the Coppernut’s 3rd anniversary but also my first meet the artist event. In order we have talented artist and friend Gill McNicol,myself,the lovely owner Siobhan and her right hand lady the lovely Carlie.

I thought I'd share a bit about my approach to art and business....

My art business is small and personal, and that’s exactly how I like it.

I don’t have a “business head,” and I’m okay with admitting that. I don’t dream of scaling my art into a big business or chasing endless sales goals. Obviously more sales are always welcome and often needed but I’m not interested in pushing anyone to buy something they’re not genuinely drawn to. My approach is simple: if someone loves a piece of my work enough to buy it, that’s wonderful, if not there's absolutely no pressure or hard sell.

My ambition lies in something much quieter: to live a simple, steady life doing what I love. For me, success isn’t defined by numbers, although again that's important to an extent, it’s about creating, sharing, and connecting—while leaving space for slow, intentional living.

I know this approach might sound unambitious in a world that celebrates success and growth. But for me, the dream is different. I really don’t want to be consumed by the chaos of striving for “more.” My goal is to keep things simple and sustainable, to earn enough to avoid going back to a “proper” job, and to savour the life I’ve built.

This isn’t about just settling for what I have; it’s about defining success on my own terms and for me, that’s embracing the joy of a slower, simpler life.

Having said all that, the reality of running a small business isn't that simple - it's not easy to get seen and its getting even harder. I rely very much on word of mouth and am always incredibly grateful to anyone who gives me a shout out, shares my work or recommends me to others. Those small gestures of support mean the world - they help me sustain this life and continue doing what I love so thank you to anyone who likes, comments, shares, recommends - and if you've purchased anything then the biggest thank you of all - I NEVER take it for granted 🥰

In the first Wylde Thistle event I took part in I hadn’t a clue what I was doing and stacked on my table about 50 different prints,in two different sizes , along with a choice of 50 different greetings cards🫣 Thankfully I have come along a bit and now just stock 3 different popular ranges . Wild Swimming,Coastal,and furry friends. These will be featured not only as greetings cards and wrap but also mugs and tea towels. Perfect if you’d like something different for Christmas 🎄

I’ll be in Largs tomorrow for the SWI coffee afternoon and craft fayre. Did you know I have 18 different designs on my mugs? No I didn’t either until I counted them 😆 Any tea jennys and coffee drinkers out there 🙋🏼‍♀️ I have wild swimming(dookers) mugs,a range of whale 🐳 mugs (who doesn’t love whales,right💁🏼‍♀️) and ,we couldn’t live without them,dog mugs. Please note a cat has made its way onto the group line ups 😼😸 Please pop by and say hello,ohh did I mention Largs mugs 🥰
