🌟 We’d to like to kickstart our piggie education series by talking about one of the ways piggies differ to rabbits: their reproductive habits! 🌟
We all know that rabbit litters are often huge and they can give birth what feels like every five minutes. Piggies are a little different.
The guinea pig gestation period is a lot longer than rabbits, usually around 59-72 days.
Guineapig litters are typically a lot smaller than rabbit litters, with the average amount of pups born being 1-2. For rescues this is a double edged sword:
- when pregnant sows come in we know the litters are likely to be small, incurring less costs to the rescue and meaning mum won’t have loads of babies to feed.
- however, breeders often increase the amount of breeding sows in order to produce more babies meaning more piggies being exploited.
Guinea pig babies look a lot different to bunnies as well! When rabbits are born, they spend the first portion of their lives in their nest, eyes closed and furless. They’re completely vulnerable.
Guinea pig pups are born with all of their fur (with the exception of skinny pigs), eyes open and leave the nest pretty sharpish. They’re quite big, which likely has something to do with why litters are usually so small - not much room in the womb!
In the rabbit rescue world we talk a lot about the crisis facing the rescue world. This is also prevalent but not as shouted about when it comes to guineas. You only need look at a snapshot of ethical rescues’ waitlists to see that there are too many piggies and too few rescue spaces out there.
By supporting ethical guinea pig rescues you are helping fight for a brighter world for our guinea pig friends.
Today we say goodbye to Willow & Clover 🐇🐇
I know Mum is pleased to have you home 🏡

Always a pleasure to spend time with these, and they are always very well behaved 🙂
Good morning ☀️
This week, we welcome Norbert to the Little Pet Inn family.
A little different to normal, Norbert is house sitting, and we are making sure there are no wild parties 😂
Grocery trip means a rainbow coloured tea 🌈
This morning we welcome back Blossom 🌸 & Percy 🐇
Blossom🌸 doesn't like being in the car. So we have left her to have a rest and find all the welcome treats when they are ready too 🩷🩵

Oh Boris!! 🩵🐇
Boris has been staying with us for 4 weeks whilst his people went and spent some time with family.
It was his first time staying with us, but after a day or two he soon settled in. We have been so busy at times but Boris patiently waited his turn 🥰
I am certainly going to miss him. Boris is such a gentle rabbit who loves a fuss, and the odd treat😂.

Bye bye Rolo & Smokey 👋 These beautiful pair were a pleasure to spend time with. Also thank you Rolo for making me crawl around and look silly in front of mummy😂 If anyone is wondering these runs might have a panel that opens, but it is NOT a door! 🤦♀️😂
I'm sooo excited. I'm sorry about the quality of the video but I had to be like ninja🥷 It might only be myself & my dad that will appreciate this video😂....the bunnies 🐇 are using the tunnel ❤️. All the hassle was worth it 😊
Well, the outside space is finally ready for the summer ☀️ let's take you on a tour.. We have added a new path, new hutches, and new runs-including a tunnel to one giving outdoor access all day and a cosy pen at night. There is a space outside for each pen should you wish to use the outdoor space. We aim to make your pets stay fun and entertaining but comfortable! The diary is filling up. Please get in contact for any enquiries or to make a booking.
This is last nights edition of guess that tune 😂 ( no guessing if you know this little powerhouse) Answer below
After breakfast Taz stretched his legs, whilst I tried to clean. Cleaning with Taz is like cleaning with a toddler😂 but the wagg on that tail, I don't care. I gave up and had some cuddles before Taz went to rest. (Sorry i can't upload two videos at the same time🤦♀️)
This evening we said goodbye to Bramble & Sage🐇🐇 It was lovely to spend some time with them both again.
These two very inquisitive bunnies Dexter and Rex, were doing their inspection of the 'Inn' this morning.
