This is a very handsome Jake 😍
He had his first myotherapy treatment just over a week ago as he has been experiencing some stiffness and tenderness in his hind limbs.
He was a little anxious to start with, but soon relaxed and I managed to make some real progress with him.
I can't wait to see him again soon 😊

Say hello to the gorgeous Dexter.
He had his first treatment yesterday as he has been struggling with his age lately and feeling the effects of arthritis in his hind limbs.
He was an absolute star and let me do a lot of work over his thoracic region, focusing on his neck and shoulders where he is carrying a lot of compensatory hypertonic muscle and tension from his weak and painful back end.
We also did some passive movement to get the neural pathways fired up, reminding them of the range of movement that is possible. His hind limbs were just too sore for any deep tissue work so we just kept it very superficial to enable him to trust me.
All in all Dexter was a pleasure to treat and I am looking forward to our next session.

This is so common and sadly very often goes untreated. Although myotherapy cannot cure the arthritis it can very effectively help ease the compensatory issues caused by the arthritis making the dog feel a lot more comfortable as a whole and very often giving them a new lease of life. Combined with the right veterinary treatment and pain management from the vets owners have reported their dogs going 'back to how they were years ago'

Ever hear your vet or therapist talk about 'compensation issues' or 'effects of compensation' on your dog?

They are referring to the dog experiencing discomfort and thus shifting and redistributing their weight on to another structure such as from the left to right limb or front limbs to hindlimbs or more commonly and sometimes less obviously, limbs through the spine and back.

People compensate for injury and so do animals, its a survival instinct but long term compensation can create other dysfunction as structures that are not designed to move in a certain way ending up doing so to 'help out' another joint or structure which has been compromised.

I met this lovely girl just 6 weeks ago and she is like a different dog from that day. When I met her she was was struggling to walk, struggled to get up and down wincing in pain, was really withdrawn and clearly in pain. Her owner and the vet were extremely worried. She is now so much better. She is back to loving her 2 daily walks and is back to her cheeky springer self - jumping onto the sofa and trying to jump up and steal food. She is no longer wincing and is just so much happier. I am delighted 😁

If your dog could talk, what would they say?
Dogs are extremely brave and are good at hiding or disguising any pain they may be feeling.
Have they slipped while out on a walk or while playing?
Has their behaviour changed suddenly?
Are they showing concern or aggression to a certain part of the body being touched?
All of the above and many more things could be a sign hat your dog is struggling with pain somewhere within their body.
If this is the case it is essential to take your dog to the vet for any medical reasons to be ruled out. If that is the case then myotherapy may be what your dog needs to help unlock what is causing the pain and relieve this for them.
Most cases of pain are caused by compensatory issues due to something else going on within the body rather than the sight of the pain being the problem area.
Myotherapy looks at the dog as a whole and as therapists we try to work out where the pain may be stemming from and to unravel the problem right back to the cause of it.

Whether your dog has a condition such as arthritis or is a young dog needing maintenance, they can all benefit from myotherapy.
Sporting dogs benefit from regular maintenance massages as well as pre and post event treatments.

Do you compete with your dog? agility, flyball, canicross, obedience etc.
All of these ask your dog to use their muscles in a demanding way. Myotherapy can be used as a pre-event warm up to get your dogs' body and muscles ready for competition as well as firing up the neural pathways to get them mentally prepared and focused.
Post event massage can be used to help cool down the muscles after strenuous exercise, aid venus return and also help find any 'hot spots', or injuries quickly.
If a pre/post event massage sounds like something that would be beneficial to your doggy friend then please get in touch so we can discuss further.
😊

Coco the giant schnauzer x standard poodle enjoyed her regular maintenance massage today. As you can see she made it very clear what area she wanted treating today by placing it on my lap. Myotherapy is about working with the dog and adjusting to what they are communicating with you.

Blaze enjoying his massage this afternoon. He is now 6 months old now and really enjoys his treatments.
Here I can be seen working on his pectoral muscles, bringing blood to the area and assisting with the lymphatic drainage.
Myotherapy is beneficial for dogs of any age, it can be used as maintenance, as I do with Blaze or it can be used to help ease the compensatory issues caused by chronic conditions such as arthritis, subluxating patella and hip dysplasia along with many other issues.
I can also provide pre and post event treatments for things such as flyball, agility, obedience, cani-x etc.
Feel free to contact me if you would like more information.
I am currently on the look out for case studies to aid in me completing my studies.
I need 5 in total, I already have 2 lined up so I am looking for another 3.
This involves me providing 3 treatments to your dog free of charge, once I have obtained vet consent.
Please contact me if you think I can help your dog.

Blaze just wanted to swing by and say Hello to everyone! He said he wanted to let everyone know that myotherapy is good for puppies too. It can really help with aiding their growth and development due to the effects it has on the body systems, including aiding venous return, improving blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Blaze has really been enjoying having short treatments and he is always fast asleep by the end 😴🐶

My lovely girl Kyla flat out relaxing after her treatment this evening. I feel like we had a massive breakthrough tonight, she has been reluctant to let me treat her, I think partly because I am her mum and partly because she is so very tight and sore. However tonight she happily accepted treatment on her neck, pectorals and thoracic limb and she even let me feel her hamstrings and my goodness me they are very tight. Feeling positive that next time she will let me start treating her pelvic region and hamstrings 😊
