Some very sad news today, but I have just heard the remaining boy has been found, he is receiving emergency treatment at the vets near to where he was found. Thank you Ravenswood and everyone that has helped find them.

Ravenswood are desperately trying to catch these dogs, how can people just dump them. Thank you for the donations of tuna our clients have dropped off.

I know everyone is waiting for an update and we will as soon as we can 🤎

We now have a sighting of the 2nd dog we have been searching for but unfortunately they have separated so it making things difficult for us all but thankfully she is alive and well as far as we can see.

I have had some lovely offers of help and support and we really appreciate you all but right now we have an amazing team who are working day and night with us to sit and monitor them.

Last night one of the dogs came to the point of looking at the team, standing and watching so we really are making baby steps but again that's fine it's her call right now.

My heart hurts that someone has done this to these dogs because at some point these dogs were someone's pets or someone used and made money out of them by breeding from them and when they are worth no more throw them out like a piece of rubbish and drove away leaving them confused l, distrustful and scared and the likes of us are left to pick up the pieces to gain their trust to get them to safety and they don't understand we are here to help and life will begin for them once they are with us.

The heat and sun is against us, we are all hot, bitten, stung we are jumping, running out legs and arms hurt but never does our team give up because we want them safe as much as all you reading this do!

Hot Forecast Due 🌅 Met Office Heat will build through the week. On Wednesday the highest temperatures values in the UK are expected to be around 27ºC.

Is it true that if we use cold water on heat stroke pets they will go into shock?

One of the most common things we still hear is that we can only use tepid water on a pet with heat stroke, incase they get some complications like hypothermic overshoot, peripheral vasoconstriction hindering a cooling response, and cardiogenic shock...

We have heard not to use cold water in case it causes shock... this rarely happens!

But guess what? In a recent study over 26% of dogs presented with heat stroke died, with flat faced breeds making up nearly half of heat stroke cases seen in the study.

You should:

💧Get someone to call the local veterinary practice and tell them you're going to travel down with a heat stroke patient
💧Pour, hose or if possible immerse the pet in very cold water (this should obviously be done under constant supervision, ensuring the head is fully above water and immersion should not be attempted if the animal is too large, or you are unable to do so without hurting yourself)
💧NB: If using a hose pipe, make sure it has run through until cold, as they can often contain water that is extremely hot in the tubing initially
💧Do not drape in towels and leave them in situ. Keep the cold water flowing.
💧Move to a cool, shaded area
💧Prepare to transport to vets in a cold, air conditioned car

In studies they found that:

🌅International consensus from sports medicine organisations supports treating EHS with early rapid cooling by immersing the casualty in cold water.
🌅Ice-water immersion has been shown to be highly effective in exertional heat stroke, with a zero fatality rate in large case series of younger, fit patients.
🌅Hyperthermic individuals were cooled twice as fast by Cold Water Immersion as by passive recovery.
🌅No complications occurred during the treatment of three older patients with severe heat stroke were treated with cold‐water immersion.
🌅Cold water immersion (CWI) is the preferred cooling modality in EHS guidelines and the optimal method applicable to UK Service Personnel
🌅Studies suggest using either ice-water or cold-water immersion

The best intervention is PREVENTION, but if you find yourself with an animal with heat stroke, using cold water either by pouring, hosing or ideally (if safe) immersion then this may help reduce their temperature to safe levels while you transport to a veterinary practice.

To our wonderful supporters please can you share the following appeal 🐕🐕 We am extremely concerned about the 2 dogs still running in the extreme heat we have had and having! Thees dogs have been running since Thursday last week and only 1 sighting today!!

So sadly the drone has been unable to locate them 😕 BUT we have a plan B in place! Soooooo as strange as this may sound 😜 we need as many tins of sardines or tuna in brine as possible!! Our intention is to get them sniffing within an area we need them to be! If anyone would be kind enough to donate any tins.

They can be dropped off at the Ravenswood shop , Sunnyside Veterinary Clinic and Silvergreen Vets in Wisbech.

Thank you 🙂
