We expect dogs to learn our language and so many ignorant people donāt bother to reciprocate the gesture.
In Britain a side to side shake of the head means no, in Bulgaria it means yes. In dog language a āsmileā like in the videoā is called a fear grimace and shows the dog is in discomfort. People might expect the dog to attempt to escape if it was unhappy, but very likely the girl would have just returned it to the bucket. Not all dogs bite when unhappy. Maybe it did in the passed and it was smacked on the nose so now it just freezes and waits for the distress to eventually go away.
Please give dogs the same respect we expect in return and teach your children.
Reasons I gave my dogs a treat on this mornings walk
* having a wee
* recall after saying hello to a dog
* moving over to the side on 8 occasions for joggers & cyclists
* after walking passed a dog who was barking at them
* recalling from a dead deer
* recalling from a live deer
* recalling from a crisp packet
* because they came back for no reason and wanted one.
I am present with them, we watch, run, play and smile. No podcast, text messages or doom scrolling. If walking your dog is stressful try changing your perspective and find the little wins.
What does this dog trainer do on a Friday night

NAILS!š
First time doing all 4 feet of the daxi without needing to restrain her. #lifegoals #cooperativecare #dogtrainer
Visual description: a white and ginger dachshund lays on the sofa while owner uses nail grinder to file each nail on one foot, dog is being fed carrot chunks in between.
To us, our dogs are only a small part of our life. But to them, we are their whole life.
Make them feel special and walk like no one is watching šš¤£
In lessons I often ask owners to describe what their dog is doing and very often they correctly say ādisplacement behaviourā but sometimes without actually knowing what it means. Just a quick clip that might help.
I am regularly encouraging my clients to practice in varied locations. I try to never miss an opportunity.
The vet was running very late so I occupied Gin with some search games around the shop. TRAIN, DONT COMPLAIN

CRIME SCENE CHALLENGE!
Lay your dog down, preferably flat and place treats around them as if drawing around a dead body.
Post your attempts in the comments below š
Difficultly clipping nails?
Why not make a scratch board this weekend?
You will need- coarse sandpaper, firm board, drawing pins, tasty treats & patience.
Fix sandpaper to board with pins so you can replace when worn out. Place treat under the board and encourage your dog to āget itā or āfind itā as soon as their foot touches the board praise and treat. Repeat treating for every foot scratch.
Thought Iād practice what Iāve been preaching.

This week in class I have been teaching scent work. Here are a few dogs who nailed the blind search where the handler doesnāt know where the scent is, in such a sort space of time.
Live draw for all about dogs tickets
After a busy week of fun agility training, thought I'd post a video showing how size and age doesn't matter at 2legs 4legs!
Next advanced class is on 28th May, booking required. Open to all dogs who can focus around other dogs and all owners who have a slight idea about clicker training. Watch the video to see some of the things we teach.
So I got home at 10pm after classes and while waiting for my tea to cook I thought I'd teach Ginni something new.
