Please read the below message from one of our client's and look through your tackroom and see if you can help. All donations can be dropped off at Anchorage Barn or we can collect if we are due to visit you.....

"You may know that I have visited Gambia annually for several years. I try and help the neglected ponies and donkeys there where I can. I have become friendly with a vet over there and he does so much to help the local equines. Donkeys are used a great deal in Gambia and often the harnesses are badly fitting or just at end of life and cause bad sores. This vet takes old cottage craft type girths and makes simple replacement harness for the donkeys, which greatly improves their welfare. If you have any unwanted cottage craft type girths you are willing to donate, please let me know and I will send them all to this vet. He does a great job and it will be lovely to help him with his constant mission to help the donkeys".

As promised a couple of photos of Ray at the Search for a Star final at this year's Your Horse Live on the 10th November.

We won the Ridden M&M Championship class, Ridden Supreme Champion and then Reserve Supreme Champion.

I cannot thank you all enough for saving him when he was 18 months old.

We are so delighted to see that Apollo has made a full recovery from the wound he sustained when he escaped. You almost wouldn’t know that it had happened!

It definitely helped that we were able to attend to this wound soon after it had occurred. Bringing the wound edges together (primary intention healing) shortens the healing time and gives a better cosmetic result. 🙂

We’d love you to know about Vera, who is a wonderful riding school pony. Vera suffered from several bouts of severe eye pain due to a condition called Equine Recurrent Uveitis. The decision was made to remove Vera’s eye so that she was no longer in pain. The surgery was a great success, she healed really well and is now back in work doing a fantastic job of teaching children to ride.

* POWER TO UKRAINE FUNDRAISER *

The War in Ukraine has been raging for almost a year. Winter has presented people and animals with incredible challenges, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Short days and long freezing nights mean much of the daily care of Ukraine’s horses must be done outside daylight hours. Power cuts deprive vets of light, hot water, equipment and sustenance, making caring for displaced and injured horses difficult and emergency veterinary care almost impossible.

The British Equestrians for Ukraine and The British Equine Veterinary Association have sourced generators that can be safely transported to where they are needed in Ukraine. Each generator costs £1,500 and will be lifesaving for Ukraine’s vulnerable horses.

We would like to assist them in their appeal and raise £1,500 to provide a generator to The Power of Ukraine. We need YOUR help to achieve this goal. Welcome to Susie Ostler BA VetMB MRCVS. Susie graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2022 and then joined us at Anchorage Barn that September. Susie is particularly interested in equine medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy. Outside of work Susie enjoys spending time with her ex-racehorse 'Smurf', playing netball and cycling. We do hope you will join us in making Susie feel most welcome!

We are pleased to announce we are now able to offer shockwave therapy using our brand new shockwave equipment!

Shockwaves are high energy sound waves which are created and then applied to a specific area within the body using the shockwave therapy equipment. The energy waves travel through the skin into deeper structures to stimulate healing.

Alice Casburn was riding Topspin, owned by Caroline Casburn and Philippa Cross was riding Scoop De Ferbet, owned by Tina Hayward and The Scoop Syndicate.
