🔥 Piggies are prone to heat stroke in temperatures of 26 degrees and above! 🥵

If you think your piggy may have heat stroke:

🏥 Always take your guinea pig to the vets

⚠️ Don't submerge your piggy in cold water, this can send your piggy into shock
🌞 Do remove them from the heat source
🧊 Lay them on a cool mat, tile, or frozen bottle wrapped in a cover
💦 Dampen your piggy's fur with cool water with a thin towel or body mist
⏱️ Do this every few minutes to cool them down gradually, you don't want your piggy to go into shock from the drastic temperature change
💉 Feed them water through a syringe, a little at a time

Time for a Twilight Stroll & Scurry, Piggies! Happy July Full Hay Moon! 🐹 🌕 🌾

The full moon in July is known by various names across different cultures, each reflecting seasonal changes, agricultural practices, and traditional beliefs.

In Europe, it is often known as the "Hay Moon," marking the time of hay harvesting, noted on all piggy calendars. 🌾

In North America, it is commonly referred to as the "Buck Moon" because this is the time when male deer grow their new antlers. 🦌

Some Native American tribes call it the "Thunder Moon" due to the frequent thunderstorms that occur during this month. 🌩️ ⚡

Other names include the "Mead Moon," relating to the traditional brewing of mead from honey. 🍯

In China, it is called the "Hungry Ghost Moon," coinciding with the Ghost Festival, when it is believed that spirits visit the living! 👻

GRIEVING THE LOSS OF A GUINEA PIG

If you’ve come to The Ralph Site and our blog because you’re grieving the loss of a guinea pig, let us first say how sorry we are for your loss.

As you will have no doubt experienced first-hand, guinea pigs are wonderful animals who are packed full of personality, especially with their delightful language of ‘wheeks’ and whistles and propensity for ‘popcorning’ when they’re happy.

🐇 Exploring the most common health problems in pet rabbits in the UK, new research from the RVC reveals unnatural body shapes along with inadequate diet and exercise as having strong links with poorer health in rabbits.

These insights will support ongoing efforts to enhance pet rabbit welfare in the UK, helping owners to recognise and prevent common disorders and providing veterinary professionals with more information around the causes of commonly diagnosed disorders.
