Remember, Remember the 5th November ‼️
Guy Fawkes night is usually celebrated with social gatherings, bonfires and fireworks🔥🧨
Firework displays, light up the sky with sparkling, whooshing, banging and spectacular displays of colour 🎇🎆
Although enjoyed by many this night presents a risk to many animals. This week we will be sharing the dangers associated with this time of year and help you to keep your pets safe over the coming nights and prepare for celebrations in the months ahead 🧡💜
We recommend that you plan ahead and complete the following:
☑️Start noise desensitisation
☑️Speak to your vet about pheromone or medical treatment to reduce the signs of stress and anxiety
☑️Check your pets Microchip details are correct
☑️ Ensure you are aware of when the local firework displays are.
☑️ Speak to neighbours and establish if they are planning to have their own firework displays

🐹 Clean
🐹Warm

⚠️ We have seen an increased number of ticks this year!
🕷️Ticks are tiny parasites that are mainly
found in long grass and woodland areas.
☀️Ticks are most active during warmer
months.
🩸Once attached ticks feed on human and
animal blood.
🦠 Ticks can spread Lyme disease.
How to prevent:
🥾Avoid high risk areas during the warmer
months
👀Be vigilant and check your dogs after
walking
💊 Use regular parasite treatment that
includes tick prevention
📞 If you would like more information on parasite control please contact one of our friendly team.
Remember tick treatment is included on our Pet Health Plan 🙌🏻
Parasite
🦔Last week our team treated a poorly little hedgehog
👀 This parasite was found under the microscope by our student Veterinary nurse Grace
🔍Can you guess what it is?
Weaning Hedgehogs
♥️ These beautiful babies were hand reared by Sophie and Thomas
❓Did you know that baby Hedgehogs are called Hoglets
🦔 As we are now in full swing of the hoglet season we thought we would raise awareness of what to do if you find a nest.
❗️If you accidentally disturb a nest please cover back up and observe from a distance. Usually their parents are close by and return to the nest frequently.
👀 look out for signs of when to intervene;
- If hoglets are in immediate danger
- If mother found dead near to nest
- If mother doesn’t return for several hours
🐌 When hoglets are newborn they will have their eyes shut and have soft white prickles. By the time their eyes are open, they have sharp brown prickles and weigh approximately 300g they are usually fully weaned.
☎️ If you have found a nest or are concerned about the welfare of a hedgehog please contact one of our friendly team or a local rehabilitation centre

Today is #WorldVeterinaryDay 🌏🐾 - created 22 years ago by the World Veterinary Association to highlight the lifesaving work performed by vets around the globe. Since 2020, veterinary staff had to adapt to a different & sometimes difficult way of working, while still caring for animals throughout lockdowns & balancing this with an increase in demand for services following the unprecedented boom in pet ownership.
Today we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU not only to all of our amazing Selworthy Vets team but everyone here and around the 🌏 who care for animals to ensure they are safe, healthy and happy
