🐾 Have You Tried a Sniffy Walk? 🐾

Sniffy walks or 'sniffaris' are a fantastic way to help our dogs AND us humans decompress. This is something I have really needed recently so I've been doing more of them with my own dog and its been a wonderful reminder of just how beneficial they can be!

It doesn't have to involve any extra work or extra time on our part, you don't need to invest in licki mats or snuffle mats etc... if you don't want to. If its extra stress for you, you can pass this onto your dog so the simpler the better.

I've been finding quiet spots to sit and watch the world go by, letting my dog just be a dog - sniffing, processing her surroundings at her own pace and moving onto the next spot when she decides its time. This has replaced her normal evening walk so in fact, it has been less effort on my part and contrary to what you might expect, it has still given her more than enough physical and mental stimulation to be calm all evening.

It is important to choose somewhere your dog feels relaxed and safe. For some, this might need to be the garden, or a quiet, empty car park after hours with a longer lead. The key is to find what works best for your dog - and the beauty of a sniffy walk is that, that quickly becomes clear while you are watching them.

🌟 Why I Became a Dog Walker 🌟

Hey everyone! 🐾 I wanted to share a little bit about why I chose to become a dog walker and why it's more than just a job for me.

First and foremost, I absolutely love connecting with animals. Dogs are especially dear to my heart but there is something incredibly special about forming a bond with each and every wonderful creature. It’s hard to beat those moments where you feel you are having a proper conversation with a being of another species Dr Doolittle style!

It is so very rewarding learning about each dog's unique personality. Discovering each individual’s quirks and preferences and adapting to these brings me a lot of joy and I strive to give all the best experiences possible.

I also find being out in nature very therapeutic. There's nothing like fresh air, the rustle of leaves, and the sound of birds chirping to give you a boost and I love seeing how the same can be true for our dogs.🌿🍃

The sunshine is finally here! And whilst you might want to get outside and enjoy some quality time with your dog, with the rising temperatures there are a few things to be aware of to ensure that you and your pet have a fun, and ultimately safe, summer time ☀️

Unlike humans, dogs do not sweat out their excess body heat, and what few sweat glands they have are not capable of dealing with higher heats, so instead they must lose heat via their mouths in the form of panting. If dogs become too warm, they’re much more prone to heat exhaustion, strokes, and even death.

During hot weather, limit exercise to early morning and evening to avoid the hottest part of the day. As well as the air temperature, it's also important to consider the ground temperature. As a quick test, press the back of your hand against the pavement. If it’s too hot for you to touch, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws, so hold off on walkies, or stick to shady, grassy tracks!

📣🐶 Our National Dog Survey is back!

And we need as many of you as possible to complete it so we can help even more dogs and their owners - you don't need to own a dog to fill it in!

We want to know your attitudes about dogs as well as things like who is chief poo picker-upper and if your dog prefers snoozing or splashing about? As well as the more serious stuff like how concerned you are about the costs of owning a dog, and your dogs’ behaviour. Findings from past surveys have enabled us to launch a Behaviour Support Line which has supported 8,000 owners, serve up 1 million dog meals to furry friends in need and discounted training classes for over 500 dogs.
