HULL FAIR WEEK!

Saturday marked the end of Hull Fair for 2024. Thousands of people attended over the week and enjoyed themselves with the lights and smells.

The VEMT Team were in attendance all week offering support to our colleagues and would like to share our gratitude. We had a great week supporting and networking with our colleagues from Cornerhouse (Yorkshire), Tigers Trust, Humberside Police and Antisocial Behaviour Teams.

We would like to thank all our staff and the staff from all the above services who offered their time and their commitment to offer support for all our children who were attending the Fair which meant for a safe week for our young people.

Thank you and we look forward to 2025!

SAFER HULL PARAGON HUB

Alongside our staff attending Hull Fair, tonight we have VEMT and ReachOut Staff manning the Safer Hull Paragon Hub.

VEMT Staff will present until 6pm and ReachOut Staff will be present until 8pm.

The Hub is situated within Hull Paragon Station opposite the bus stands and is there for any young people if they are feeling worried, lost or need someone to talk too, just knock on the door and there will be a friendly face waiting.

HULL FAIR!

The VEMT Team are helping to support our colleagues within the Police and Local Outreach Team at Hull Fair from Friday 4th — Saturday 12th October.

If you or any young people you know are attending Hull Fair and have any worries or concerns, then they can ask to speak to our staff by going to the Lost Children Point (Behind the Ghost Train) or St John's Ambulance point (Opposite Bob Carver's) and ask to speak to our staff members.
Our staff are available if you're lost, feeling worried or unsafe, our staff are there to help, even if you are just wanting someone to talk to.

We've put together some top tips to keep yourself safe:

📱Make sure your phone is fully charged before leaving home.
🧥Consider wearing clothes/coats that have zipped pockets to keep your phone and money safe.
💍Leave any valuables at home and only take what you need.
👫Agree with your friends a safe place to meet if you get separated (a tall ride maybe as it can be seen from far away)
📞If you do not know your parents/carers number off by heart, write it down on some paper in your pocket or put into a friend’s phone too.
⌚️Agree with parent/ carer a time to return home, and if you going to be late then let them know.
📍Make sure you are familiar with the locations of St John's Ambulance, lost/found children point and Police

Hull Fair Week!

The VEMT Team are at the fair all week supporting our colleagues within the Police and Local Outreach Teams!

We have also been working alongside East Riding staff and St John’s ambulance
to help provide support for young people visiting during the week.

If you or any young people you know have any concerns then our staff are available, all you need to do is ask for our team through St John’s at the Welfare buildings.

Please see the map in photos, circled in pink are the two welfare buildings where St John’s are based, please ask for help if you are lost, feeling worried or unsafe, we are there to help even if this is just to talk to someone about your worries.

Today is World Mental Health Day!

World Mental Health Day (10 Oct) is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. It’s also a day to let people know that it’s okay to ask for help, no matter what you’re going through.

As the theme of World Mental Health Day highlights, ‘mental health is a universal human right’.

Mental health is a basic human right for all people. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community.

Ahead of the annual return of Hull Fair 🎡 tomorrow (Friday, 6 October) make sure you follow our top tips if you are taking little ones this weekend 👇

📸 If you are taking small children to the fair, take a photo of them beforehand so we can see exactly what they are wearing should they go missing.

📝 Write your contact details on a piece of paper and put it in the pocket of the children that you are taking so we can get in touch if we find them.

Safer Hull Paragon Hub!

Alongside other partners VEMT will be present at the new Safer Community Paragon Hub situated within Hull Paragon Station, which celebrated it’s grand opening last week.

The Hub has been created in collaboration with Hull City Council, British Transport Police, Humberside Police, Local Community Agencies and Charities to provide a safe space for vulnerable children and adults, and to provide a consistent point of contact for those in need.

The Hub will be open between 9am-7pm, Monday to Sunday with partners providing shared coverage within the opening hours.

Our colleagues at Cornerhouse (Yorkshire) are holding a training course for CSE and LGBTQ+ Awareness Training on the 19th July - 4pm

Join Cornerhouse as we re run our CSE & LGBTQ+ awareness training.

The training is being run by front line practitioners with a wealth of information and knowledge of issues that affect those at risk of CSE & identify as LGBTQ+

Cornerhouse has offered services to the LGBTQ+ community since we formed in 1988. We co deliver with the Warren a youth group for those in the LGBTQ+ community.

The course facilitators are Leah, our dedicated LGBTQ+ worker at Cornerhouse, and Jenna, who has delivered front line work supporting young people at risk of CSE at Cornerhouse for 12 of the CARE projects 14 years.
