As winter sets in, we advise you keep a close eye on your horse's tendon and ligament health.

Early detection is key! Winter conditions can lead to slips and overexertion, putting your horse at risk for tendon and ligament issues. With our advanced mobile ultrasound technology, we can identify potential problems before they become serious, ensuring your horse stays healthy and active all season long.

If you have concerns about your horse's health or want to schedule an ultrasound, don't hesitate to contact us!

Equine seasonal hazards.
As temperatures drop, keeping your horses safe from seasonal hazards is essential. Here are some key risks:
- Ice & slippery ground: Horses can easily slip on icy surfaces, leading to serious injuries. Clear pathways and use sand or grit for better traction.
- Toxic plants: Some toxic plants, like yew, bracken and acorns, can still be present in winter pastures. Ensure grazing areas are free of harmful vegetation.
- Wet and muddy conditions: These can lead to slips and falls, as well as increase the risk of mud fever, a painful skin condition from prolonged damp exposure.

Stay vigilant to keep your horses happy and healthy this winter.

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week
The theme for this year is "Educate. Advocate. Act Now".
Educate: Understanding antimicrobial resistance is crucial for protecting our horses. By educating ourselves and horse owners, we can make informed decisions about medication use.
Advocate: Let's champion responsible antimicrobial use in veterinary medicine. It's our duty to promote practices that safeguard the effectiveness of these vital medications.
Act now: every action counts! Whether it's proper dosing, avoiding unnecessary prescriptions, or regular consultations, your choices play a key role in fighting resistance.

Remembrance Day
Today, we honour not only the brave men and women who sacrificed for our freedom but also the countless animals who served alongside them. From messenger pigeons and courageous horses to loyal dogs and even camels, these played a crucial role in our history, offering unwavering support in times of conflict.

As we remember the fallen, let us also pay tribute to the animals who gave their lives and helped shape the world we live in today. Together we honour them all.

How to assess and choose the right rug

Opt for a rug with sufficient insulation to keep your horse comfortable in cold temperatures, but be cautious not to overdo it. Over-rugging can lead to overheating, excessive sweating and discomfort.
Start with a rug that provides adequate warmth based on the current weather and consider layering if extra warmth is needed.
Ensure the rug fits well to avoid rubbing and allows for natural movement.
**Many of our unclipped native breeds do not need a rug at all**

Fireworks & horse safety
As the firework season approaches, keep your horse calm by ensuring their stable or paddock is securely enclosed. Create a quiet, familiar space with their usual bedding, feed and water. If possible, stay with them for reassurance and play soft music to mask the noise. Monitor their behaviour for signs of distress and consult your vet if needed. Be aware of local firework schedules to prepare in advance and help your horse feel safer.

Ever wonder why your horse might be spooking at things that seem perfectly normal? Here's a quick rundown on why your horse might be jumping at shadows:
Health issues: If spooking seems sudden or severe, it's worth checking in with your vet. Discomfort, pain or eye issues can make a horse more jumpy.
Heightened senses: Horses have incredibly sharp senses and are naturally wired to be alert to potential threats.
New environments: Moving to a new place or changing their routine can make your horse feel uneasy. Any new sight or sound can be a source of anxiety.
Past experiences: Sometimes, past traumas or negative experiences can cause a horse to be more reactive to certain stimuli.
Lack of confidence: Horses with less training or confidence might spook more easily.
