I was over the moon to be told I was nominated in these two categories last year by some of my lovely clients. As some know the decision to go freelance instead of employed was a huge step for me and after a tough 12 months in my personal life Iโ€™m so incredibly proud of myself to be nearing my two year milestone as a full time freelancer ๐Ÿ’œ

It would be amazing to be nominated again so hereโ€™s my shameless plug for this 2025 ๐Ÿคฃ

Well done Team Cottingham Equestrian Centre for another incredible show ๐Ÿ’œ

Well WHAT a day!!

We genuinely donโ€™t know where to start! Today has been busier than we could have ever imagined, and we were simply blown away by the support we received today. This was supposed to be brief, quick post after an incredibly long day, but itโ€™s impossible to keep it brief when we have a small army of people to thank ๐Ÿฅฐ

Firstly, even we didnโ€™t expect the turnout we had today - we expected to be busy, but boy was we busy! It was wonderful to see the show ground absolutely buzzing from the moment the first class started, until nearly 6pm this evening when the Supreme Champion finally made its way to the ring.

Thank you incredibly to our judges across all the rings today - Mark Taylor, Poppy Denton, Lisa Soanes, Laura Kenyon-Brodie, and Charlotte Sinclair - you all did the most incredible job in the heat to keep the huge classes moving, and to give the competitors a wonderful experience in the ring. And we know you made so many people go to bed with a smile on their face tonight!

A huge thank you to our ring stewards - Jack, Elliot, Lucy, Sophie and Jody - who are were all key cogs in the machine today! They kept the classes moving, competitors where they should be - never under estimate how appreciated you are!

Our secretaries, Pat and Judy, are seasoned pros when it comes to the summer show, and despite the increase in footfall, they remained cool as cucumbers, never getting flustered as they worked their way through a substantial queue (all day long!) to the entry box.

Our food vendors and stall holders - we have too many to name - thank you for attending and being present to assist keeping everyone supplied with food/drinks/and displaying your wonderful products, throughout the day. It was lovely to see you all and we hope you enjoyed the day.

Steph at AlfaMed- Specialist Emergency Care & Training joined us for the third year in the row, making the journey from Warwickshire to join us. Having Steph with us throughout the day is a huge reassurance, and whilst she luckily only had to attend a couple of riders, having her paramedic experience is incredibly reassuring.

Craig Ellis Photography and his team today did a superb job, covering the rings. In fact, Craig was so busy he didnโ€™t even have chance to wind up the CES team - a true rarity!

Thank you to Jon and Laura for running the Dog Ring - always a busy day, and they needed no direction as they took the reins (or rather leads!) to run the ring without any assistance from the CES team.

Thank you to our sponsors, whom without their support, this show wouldnโ€™t be possible. Too many to list right now, but whether a main sponsor, ring sponsor, or class sponsor, your support means everything.

Thank you to the CES Team - you really are the most wonderful lot, always stepping up to the mark, having smiles on their faces, being jack of all trades, and well, making the events happen! It was lovely to have Lilly join us again today, and also a nice way to wave Sophie. L. off as she focuses on her freelance career. Good luck Sophie, you will smash it!

And most importantly, thank you to every single person who joined us today! We honestly never expected anything like how today turned out to be - the classes were huge, there was some standing around (the joys of showing!) and we know we had a few teething problems here and there with the trailer park etc being so busy. BUT despite this, we had so many lovely conversations up and down the show ground, from those that were having a wonderful day, meeting friends, getting unexpected placings, and having a wonderful day.

Thank you once again your your incredible support, and patience. Itโ€™s over and out now, with a glass of wine now in hand.

See you next year,

Nikki

Letโ€™s talk ๐Ÿงผ SHEATH CLEANING ๐Ÿงผ

Iโ€™m seeing an alarming amount of โ€œsheath cleanersโ€ advertising their services to horse owners that are not even meeting the BASIC of hygiene protocols let alone using potentially damaging products and most likely not holding the correct insurance to protect themselves, you or your horse should something go wrong.

Just because someone is happy to put their hand up there does not mean they should be trusted to do so ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I saw a post from one โ€œprofessionalโ€ that they had done over 20+ horses over two days yet I noticed they never use gloves ๐Ÿค” SCARY!

As horse owners we put our trust into professionals believing that they know what theyโ€™re doing. However itโ€™s also important that we do our own research to make sure we are not unknowingly entrusting our best friends into the hands of potential cowboys.

I do offer hygiene cleans for geldings, stallions and mares. I have additional insurance added to my usual cover, use gloves and only apply water based lubricants (most off the shelf sheath cleaners are NOT fit for use).

Picture is from a gelding I did a while ago who had apparently been done not long prior but was still showing signs of discomfort. Low behold he had a large bean that had to be carefully removed ๐Ÿ™„

Took Rodger into the arena for a light schooling session last week for his owner who is out of action due to an injury. I focussed on encouraging him to work through and be a little more consistent in doing so. We stayed in walk and trot due to the temperatures and his current fitness and finished very positively.

If you need help exercising or with general schooling feel free to get in touch, between me and Rose we can cater for most sizes and requirements. We also have a vast connection with specialist professionals for those we are unable to cater for.

A couple of weeks ago I went to visit the gorgeous Splash for an afternoon of competition prep ready for Malton show the next day. She had a hot wash first with a general shampoo to remove any dirt build up which was then followed by a colour enhancing shampoo. While she dried she had her tail tidied up with the smart grooming rakes and her mane plaited up whilst wearing the Equissage. She had a very tricky mane to plait with it being very thick at the top and then quite a bit missing at the base of her neck, but I managed to make a full set that complimented her neck.

The pair looked fantastic on the day and bagged a 1st, 2nd and 4th ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ

What a week!!! A full 7 days of work this week as just had so much to fit in and even managed a 14 and a half hour day. Fields have been poo picked and ragworted, horses have been ridden/lunged/long reined, lessons have been taught, stables mucked out, haynets made, walls washed and painted, yards swept, dogs out swimming, bathing/plaiting and so much decobwebbing. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Iโ€™ve had to make some changes to the booking in system for yard/holiday cover, I cannot afford to have big gaps in my diary last minute especially when Iโ€™ve been turning multiple people away. There is only so much my wait list for other jobs can fill when I get less than 12 hours notice to cancel a 4 day cover job ๐Ÿ˜–
