Training session with Ozzy and Lola. With Lola we do lots of focus work and starting to teach ‘front’. With her being that little bit nervous I want to build her confidence around me by building eye contact and her being able to approach me. Very proud of her today❤️ With Ozzy we did a lot of sit and stay work. He isn’t a fan of the crate but with him being such a bouncy puppy we need him comfortable in there so his parents can relax and so he can relax. We started by giving him treats any time he touched or went in the crate, and we built it up with a command so he would happily take himself and stand in there. He did so well at this so we made it a bit more difficult and added Lola into the mix and asked him to wait in there while we gave Lola attention, and he just did amazingly!❤️
I’ve had an influx of new enquiries over the last week or 2, and a lot of questions on our training walks and what we actually do! This is an example of one of our training walks with Fred and Penny. Fred came to me very reactive to other dogs, we couldn’t walk past one without lunging and lots of noise. Penny came to me as she wouldn’t walk with anybody other than her mum and she was a typical excitable puppy and would plant herself on the floor when she saw a dog or would pull her mums arms off! I’ve had these 2 for a good few months now and worked with them seperately before I felt enough training was done and I was able to pair them up. These 2 are an absolute dream together but it’s taken hard work to get to where we are! I tailor these guys training walks to what they need a little more work on. Loose lead walking for both is a big thing, especially being able to relax and walk nicely on a lead together. We also do lots of little breaks where we sit and the dogs just lay down and chill out. It’s so important for your dog to be able to switch off and relax, especially around other dogs! Basic training like sits and stays are done to help keep the engagement throughout the session and it’s very easy wins for the dogs! Exposure to the problem is something we always look for. Once I feel the dog is ready, I will purposely walk places where I know I will see a dog, and you can tell by Fred and Pens reaction to the passing dog we have done tons of work on this! Ultimately, it’s your dogs walk, and there should be ample time to allow the dogs some free time, sniff, toilet breaks, cuddles, and some play time if necessary. I have only recently got to the point I can allow and trust these guys to have play time! Our training walks cover a lot but the full session is not just training. It’s 50/50. Imagine you sat in the office all day not being able to socialise or go to the toilet or make a drink. We have to make these sessions enjoyabl
Place training with these 2 crazies❤️ (Finn didn’t break early I hand signaled before I spoke) such good pups❤️
Distraction work with Barns ❤️ Unfortunately there’s more and more people nowadays who will let their dogs off lead with no recall and let them approach any dog, on or off lead. This is exactly what happened this morning numerous times dogs off lead running up to us and harassing us with owners being completely ignorant to it. However this was great training for Barn, and he may have looked at dogs approaching him, which he is bound to do he’s still a baby! But every single time he made the correct choice and came back to me when asked and ignored the approaching dogs. The last dog we saw just came over for a sniff so after Barn came to me when I asked, I then gave him permission to see the dog (with permission of the owner off camera) and they had a little play which he was dying to do the whole time but was just been too much of a good boy to do it!😂❤️
Winston❤️ I have taken Winston on for him to get comfortable with another person as he is a sensitive little soul and is only comfortable around his parents. He is also dog and people reactive, and although I was aiming to spend a few sessions with him before any exposure, we are working in real life situations and this morning we had 2 dogs we had to deal with before we could get on the field. The first dog I did nothing but watch how Winston would react, as I haven’t seen for myself yet how he reacts to dogs, and as you can see he’s a little bit dramatic!😂 the second dog was just in front of this one, so we played to our strengths and got the ball out! Winston can react from across the road and quite far away so I was super super happy with how he dealt with this situation. As soon as he started to fixate, I called him and gave him his ball when he came back to me, and to Winston nothing is more important than his ball!😂 We got to the field and spent the rest of the session as planned, with some play, commands and a lot of love! I first met this lovely dog on Saturday and he wouldn’t even let me touch him, so for this progress in less than a week, I am over the moon. Well done Winny!❤️
Lola’s first session❤️ Lola has come to me for some lead pulling issues. She doesn’t respect the tools used and just pulls her way through them. She can also be quite nervous of people. We started by asking for engagement by calling her name, as you can see she would come to me but avoided eye contact and wanted to get away from me as quickly as she came to me! We practised some luring and some sits and reward every time she made eye contact. She very quickly clicked on that she looks at me, she gets a reward. Her confidence increased massively just by gaining that eye contact and we managed to end the session with some lovely loose lead walking and engagement. Obviously we had some cuddles too! Absolutely smashed her first session!❤️
Winston’s first session ❤️ Winston has come to me to gain confidence with another handler. He’s very much a 1 person dog and has become people and dog reactive. I first met Winston on Saturday and he was really visibly uncomfortable with me, so for our first session I wanted to make it as easy and as comfortable as I could for him. We played with his ball until he was comfortable enough to let me play with him and let me stroke him. Once he was happy we then started adding commands and just increasing the amount of commands said. My main focus today was to just start to build his confidence with me by giving him very easy wins! I also started asking for physical contact which he was mega unsure of on Saturday and at the start of the session, but once he realised how easy the things I were asking him to do were to get a reward, he settled so quickly❤️ we ended up having cuddles, he was coming to me and demanding cuddles at one point😂 and we did some practice going inbetween my legs just to get a bit more of that contact with him. Very very happy with todays session and so proud of him for letting himself relax ❤️
Ozzys first session🫶 Ozzy has come to me as a very bouncy puppy who loves everyone and everything, his parents are struggling with him on lead with how strong and bouncy he is. We started today’s session by asking for some engagement, calling his name and him coming back to me. We then practised some luring which he was absolutely amazingggg at❤️ One thing about this pup is all he wants to do is please so he is more than happy to work which is so nice to see. We moved him onto a slip lead and practised some more luring and asking for eye contact. At the end of our first 30 minute session he was a different dog. I’m so proud of this big daft pup and sooo excited to carry on with him ❤️
Ace’s heel is coming on so well! Starting to change the pace now and he’s keeping his heel, such a good boy❤️
With the use of introducing a slip lead into Redds training we have now been able to start introducing the flexi lead back into his walks to allow some freedom back. Redd came to me as an overexcitable baby with little-no respect to his handler and to lead pressure. We are now able to give Redd his freedom back by working on his recall and him knowing when he is called he is to walk to heel until released. Introducing a release word is so important to your training so your pup knows when they can have their freedom and when they are to walk to heel and Redd is just doing amazingly ❤️
