Huge thanks to Richard Duffin, Joiner in , 07742 176179 for squeezing us in today to install some unwanted kitchen units from a kitchen fitting job he is on.

Our littlest shed is the one most used for storage and doubles up as my triage/icu unit. These units and work top will make a huge difference!

Once it is finished I will let you all see it!

Someone else’s rubbish is another’s treasure! Had we had to buy the units etc, we would not have had change out of £1000, so this is a huge and very useful saving!

29/1/25 update on Harold.
Improving massively- just look how clear his face is now! The mites are all gone and his worming treatment continues; in general we are pleased with his progress so far since he arrived on 15th.

RELEASE TIME
We are a bit quiet on media, but ever so busy behind the scenes. We have around 55 of our 60 patients preparing for release hopefully over the next two to three weeks.
When your hedgehog is ready to go you will receive a text giving you 24hrs to make contact to organise your hedgehogs release day collection. If we do not hear from you it will be assumed that you do not want to provide for them back in
your garden and will be allocated to known soft release gardens in your area. This may sound harsh, but these are wild animals snd must get back to the wild asap in order to prevent captivity stress. So don’t ignore the message, we need to hear from you! It will arrive with our new number .
Please ensure our new number is in your contact list 07507 791665

UPDATE: It has been brought to our attention that some rescues fear that my post will panic the public. We also know people who have shared our post have been contacted. Frankly I give the public more credit than that! Everything in this post is true. The Virus is obviously, like any other, still being studied, but the bare essentials are in the post.
Hygiene is key and by letting you know now, I feel we are being responsible hedgehog lovers. By ensuring your feeders are disinfected daily, you could reduce the spread of even the most commonly transmitted parasites & infections.
Do you want to know when it’s too late- like with Covid , to hear that we should have been more cautious sooner OR do you want to help save hedgehogs by realising the importance of hygeine? If you are contacted, please do let us know who the deceitful are, as they clearly do not want to encourage preventative actions.

❗️Huge concerns about Hedgehog ailments.

As if Hedgehogs don’t suffer enough!….

A new virus has been researched over the last few years and is now identified in hedgehogs and called Arterivirus HhAV-1. There are many symptoms and often symptoms are not shown until it is too late. It is currently not curable.😔

Rescues & vets are collaborating with Defra to hopefully find the cause and produce a vaccine that we rescues and vets can then use on our patients.

The virus is spread mainly through contaminated faeces and urine and is species specific.

What the public need to do is take action NOW!
You must disinfect your feeding stations, food & water bowls daily. Infectious diseases are often spread through a lack of hygiene. Feeding stations are where hedgehogs group thus inviting the spread of infections, even the worm burdens!

So please be responsible and ensure your hedgehog feeding station is as hygienic as you can get it on a daily basis to keep your prickly friends healthy.

Update: p**p sample revealed both round and lungworm. Treatment has commenced.

19/01/25
240g Horris/Florence has just arrived and is warming up in the Brinsea eco incubator. Found on a doorstep in last night, taken in and fed, before coming to us today.
A not very nice poo sample has been presented, so that will be tested for parasites. Two ticks have been removed so far, and pretty sure there will be more to remove.
Please continue providing food & water, they do not all hibernate & there are no healthy insects to eat at this time of year. This little hoglet was likely born Oct/Nov.

Why ?

This page has been formed for Hedgehog lovers everywhere. Hedgehogs are threatened with extinction; many causes such as, lack of hedgerows & wild areas, chemicals, floods & heatwaves, Cars, bonfires, strimmers, garden forks, complete enclosure of gardens.... For sometime now, I have taken in disabled HedgeHogs for life; gradually the public have heard & contacted me with injured, undersized, or birthed in dangerous surroundings. I realised that there was clearly a need for a rescue base here for Hedgehogs and a way to fund it was required as food and medicines soon add up!! Feeding costs are ongoing, Vets time only, is free with wildlife; the medication is billed to the rescue caring for them (not to the public bringing them in).So Lucky HedgeHog Rescue was formed. I hope with this group to help people understand HedgeHog needs, do's & don'ts, along with learning more about them & where they are seen... and of course, let's share pics of them too! Want to come & see the hogs one evening, please ring for an appointment- & a food donation when you come will be most gratefully received. Always needed: tinned cat food (non-fish), newspapers, lining wallpaper, indoor/outdoor hutches/cages... if you can help, please drop off at Paddock Cottage, Grimston Lane, Grimston HU11 4QE Tel: 07590756833 or 01964 529313 (available to receive Hedgehog rescue 24/7, leave a message if no answer) I also have an Amazon wishlist called LuckyHedgeHogs. Thanking all that have been assisting with supplies so far... i cannot rescue without your help, please keep up the good work & encourage others.... our humble HedgeHogs need our help!
